You already know about the hunt for poutine – DLS‘s favorite savory snack – so I told him a while back that I’d take him to the only place I personally know in NYC (well, Brooklyn) that has a long list of poutines available: Corner Burger. This time, I did get the Monkey Milk Shake I wanted last time – vanilla ice cream, milk, bananas and honey. It was really good – and when I couldn’t finish it but we wanted to leave for our next activity (mini golf, finally!), they put it in a to-go cup for me. The [...]

A while back, I posted about Minetta Tavern and lamented a burger that didn’t live up to its hype (which is quite common in this fair city, actually). Scott Gold (celebrated author of The Shameless Carnivore – affiliate link) responded that he’d been enjoying the burger at 5 Leaves in Brooklyn and suggested I give it a go, and as I happened to be in the area the next day, I decided to check it out. There’s no denying that when I approached the restaurant, I grew rather concerned based on the demographic being served already. I was surprised that [...]

After months of discussing fried chicken with my HS classmate Andrea – taunting her with my numerous fried chicken posts – we finally made good on our plans to check out Peaches Hothouse in Brooklyn. Of course I started with sweet tea, which was not too super sweet as I’ve had occasionally – some Yanks think they know what sweet tea is, and trust me, it’s not overloaded with sugar. It’s just sweetened iced tea! Great refresher for between bites of everything. Andrea started with the grilled portobello salad, which she enjoyed. Being the pig I am, I went with [...]

You all know how I love baseball, but the past few months has seen me watching more football than I’ve watched in my entire life, for one simple reason: fantasy football. This year was my inaugural fantasy football season, and I think I dig it… What’s this got to do with Peter Luger, you ask? Well, the winner (not me) received a lunch at Peter Luger, courtesy of the losers (one of which was me). I would finally get to try this burger everyone’s raving about! The bread basket was so monstrous, someone requested I take a photo of it. [...]
Thanksgiving 2011

It is amazing how fast a year goes by. It doesn’t seem like too long ago that we were at ML and TL’s apartment celebrating the best holiday of them all; Thanksgiving. Once again, they hosted, but this time at their new apartment in Carroll Gardens. It ended up being seventeen people including a couple of kids since TL’s whole family was in town to celebrate his Dad’s 70th Birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. L! We arrived early with CT’s parents to help setup (and get a head start on eating and drinking). With seventeen people, it is everyone for themselves! [...]
