Delta – First Class

One of my dearest friends – known to y’all on my blog simply as StB – recently got married in Maui, Hawaii. There was no way I was going to miss this for the world, so I took myself on a week long trip… read along as I share everything I ate on this incredible vacation!  A lot of things led to me upgrading to first class for the last leg of my flight to Hawaii – LAX to Maui – you could say the bottom line is that I spoil myself, but that ignores all the other factors like [...]

Freshly Ground Meat & Friendship

Freshly Ground Meat & Friendship

I am forever grateful to my super lovely host and hostess for making this impromptu road trip possible; for opening their lovely home to not just me, but to my surprisingly well-behaved dog (except for that moment of panic when I realized she was no longer in the backyard and had wandered ACROSS THE STREET – I ran outside barefoot and almost had a heart attack!); for just being all around awesome people to board a stray food blogger with a lot on her mind AND her dog, to listen to that same food blogger blab on and on about [...]

Earth Bread + Brewery: Philadelphia

Earth Bread + Brewery: Philadelphia

Some towns are simply beer-drinking towns. There may not be much else to the place, but there’s almost no way to avoid finding a good beer in most every corner pub or divey-looking bar. I kinda feel that way about Philadelphia. Sure, the cheesesteaks and roast pork are phenomenal, but I just feel… dirty in most of the city. But I keep going back, to join friends in afternoons and evenings of eating and imbibing at our favorite establishments. Earth Bread + Brewery, located in Mount Airy, surely stands above all others with my drinking friends and I from New [...]

Bullock’s Barbeque, Durham NC

Bullock’s Barbeque, Durham NC

Once upon a time, I lived in Durham, North Carolina. There I learned the beauty that is barbecue — whole-hog pulled pork, drenched in a hot pepper-and-vinegar “sauce” — and probably ate that a few dozen times a year. Even after moving to New York, I had a good reason to visit my one-time home at least a couple of times a year, and on every drive down I tried to visit two venerable Durham institutions: Sam’s Quik Shop, for my craft-beer fix, and Bullock’s Barbeque, for all-you-can-eat Eastern Carolina barbecue. I’d not visited the area for over two years, [...]

La Mexicanita No. 2 (Panama)

La Mexicanita No. 2 (Panama)

Back towards the beginning of the year, CT and I learned that CT’s Sister’s Sister-in-Law would be getting married in Panama at the end of July. Why Panama? The Bride’s parents live down there now full-time. We learned that Panama has a huge ex-pat population mostly because it is so cheap and the U.S. Dollar is the functional currency down there. Since CT’s whole family is quite close with her brother-in-law’s family, we were all invited to the wedding. Since neither of us had been to Panama before, we decided to spend an extra couple days down there to explore [...]
