I was recently invited to enjoy a peek behind the scenes during the taping of Madison Cowan giving suggestions for how to cook pork for the new site, www.porkbeinspired.com – some great tips there. I basically hung out in the green room, munching and watching Madison run through a few recipes to zazz up pork chops. I enjoyed tender pork loin with salad, some rice and veggies. Then fresh fruit and a lot of desserts (I must’ve been in a sweets mood that day!) – shockingly REALLY good whoopie pies, black & whites and other cookies. So good. The first [...]

Remember those Safe Eggs I posted about a while back? Ever since then, I’d had a hankering to make spaghetti alla carbonara. When I discovered DLS had never had it – didn’t even know what it was – I knew what I had to do. Make spaghetti alla carbonara! I picked up a package of already cubed pancetta from Trader Joe’s, and beat a few eggs with salt/pepper and cheese that isn’t in the picture (I used piave). The matzoh crackers in the background are because I also made salted caramel chocolate covered matzoh sandwiches… yum. While some of the [...]

A while back, Seattle’s Best sent me a gift card for a drink. I finally got to the one location in NYC – in Manhattan Mall – and asked the lone barista to make me his favorite drink. We got to chatting and he mentioned that Starbucks owns them. That doesn’t bother me – I’m a Starbucks recovered addict (due to lack of funds, haha) – but I found it interesting that the line up of drinks seemed fairly different. He wound up making me a caramel macchiato type drink, iced, which I found overwhelmingly too sweet even after I [...]

While I try to post every meal I consume, that just isn’t possible. So while I’ve posted about Ayza midtown you may not realize that I’ve been there a good handful of times – with the girls usually – to snack, drink, or both. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere, the outdoor seating, the snacks and everything, but only posted about it that one time. Well, I was invited to go to the newest Ayza location – downtown – and have a ‘date night’ as it was called. We were greeted with little cups of spiced wine. I’m abstaining from alcohol currently, [...]
Cooking for DLS pt 3

Another week, another adventure cooking for DLS! This week, I went the easy route – I forget why, exactly, but I made chipotle lime crusted chicken - I believe because I really wanted to make an avocado salad on the side. Part of the fun of cooking just for me has always been that I get to make things to exactly my own tastes and never, ever think twice about what someone else might like or not like. Part of the fun of cooking for someone else has always been trying to balance what I like with what they like – which [...]
