Recette

Recette

StB returned home recently, so of course dinner plans were made.  She chose Recette, having heard good things.  Of course, SpB and I arrived late, both having come in from far-Queens… but I immediately ordered a fizzy drink – sparkling wine with a cube of sugar in the bottom.  It was okay.  StB ordered the razor clams with a chili compote.  She said it was tasty.  ($9)HB and I both ordered duck carpaccio with chicken liver mousse and apple slivers.  I liked this dish quite a lot, but at the same time, honestly?  $12 for the above and that’s a [...]

SF Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest – nopalito (dinner on Thursday)

SF Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest – nopalito (dinner on Thursday)

One of my favorite cousins made some time to hang out with me while I was in San Francisco for the Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest.  I know how busy he is – especially because at the time, his wife was eight and a half months pregnant with their first child (!!!) – congratulations again, I can’t wait to meet him!!! – so I really appreciated that they both came out to eat and catch up with me.  They chose nopalito, which, to my understanding, is kind of new-ish, and is forward-thinking-Mexican, sourcing the best and local/organic ingredients.  Sounds interesting, [...]

Salon de Tapas

Salon de Tapas

AB’s birthday passed recently (errr… a while back; I keep pushing this post off), so we gathered to celebrate.  Unfortunately, I was a bit late for dinner, so as soon as I sat down, I was handed a glass of strawberry sangria (which was surprisingly REALLY good!), and didn’t stop drinking for two hours, so the pictures are incredibly blurry.  As I had no hand in the ordering process, I also don’t know the names of everything.  Oops! Slices of filet or steak of some sort.  Super tender – at one point, AB actually cut a piece in half by [...]

I recently took a day trip down to DC (the purpose of which will be explained later for those that don’t follow my Twitter or aren’t my Facebook friend), but before doing so, solicited recommendations on Facebook for where to have lunch.  One place’s name popped up repeatedly such that I finally decided that meant I should go there…
Jaleo, a tapas place that was pretty close to my bus stop (or it looked like it on Google Maps anyway!).
As soon as I sat down, the waiter came over with a dish that contained a sprig of rosemary along with a [...]

Hagi Sake Bar

A recent gathering for a special reason… sniff, sniff.  We gathered at Hagi, this crazy loud Japanese izakaya/sake bar type place with lots of people screaming in Japanese.  You know you’re in the right place when it’s a Japanese place and almost every single patron there is speaking Japanese fluently.  But damn, the people next to us were SO loud and drunk.

Spicy cod roe spaghetti, takoyaki, edamame.  Good nibbles for drinking lots.  You can’t see it but we were all drinking that night… even those of us sick.  Hey, it was a special occasion… one of the last times [...]
