McDonald’s First Taste

I was recently invited to the McDonald’s First Taste Event – announcing what new items they’d have for the summer (like last year).  This time, we got to sample the new oatmeal and new fruit smoothies – I couldn’t try the smoothies because it had an ingredient to which I am allergic, but I gamely tried the oatmeal. I’m not a huge fan of oatmeal in general – I have a description for how I feel about the oatmeal that is not suitable for publication on a food site (the description is vile and off-putting, intentionally so) – but this [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Alma 33

Tuesdays with TT: Alma 33

Ah, Valentine’s Day. A time to celebrate with your significant other and help the economy with the purchase of flowers, chocolates and an overpriced meal. CT and I don’t “buy in” to the hype of this Hallmark holiday, but we still celebrate in our own special way. Yes, I did buy her some roses. Last year, I cooked some of my famous BBQ brisket. This year we decided to go out the Sunday before to celebrate (and avoid those notorious Valentine’s prix fixe menus). We decided to check out Alma 33, an Argentinian restaurant in the West Village that our [...]

Spot Dessert Bar

Spot Dessert Bar

After La Churreria, I decided DLS and I should walk over to meet TC and Hungry at Spot Dessert Bar.  (And again, here.)  That’s right – for those of you counting at home, DLS and I ate at FOUR different places in the space of ONE evening, beginning at 6pm and ending around 10pm: Joe’s Ginger, 456 Shanghai, La Churreria, and then Spot Dessert Bar.  Two dinners deserves two desserts, right?  Right. We each chose from the dessert tapas section of the menu, which meant that we got a discounted price for ordering 4 tapas – I think it was [...]

Buddakan

Buddakan

I recently had the pleasure of a dinner meeting at Buddakan with Jessica, who is part of their PR team.  We had fabulous service with an excellent server, but he knew ahead of time who we were, so I won’t focus on that.  Let’s just talk about the food… and drink. When I saw the FATE cocktail (on the left) on the menu, I had to have it.  Prosecco, pineapple, and elderflower.  Yeah, pretty much tailor made for me… and I loved it.  Perfectly balanced without being cloyingly sweet.  Delicious.  Jessica had the DREAM, which tasted like guava juice and [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Pio Pio (Panama)

Tuesdays with TT: Pio Pio (Panama)

Back towards the beginning of the year, CT and I learned that CT’s Sister’s Sister-in-Law would be getting married in Panama at the end of July. Why Panama? The Bride’s parents live down there now full-time. We learned that Panama has a huge ex-pat population mostly because it is so cheap and the U.S. Dollar is the functional currency down there. Since CT’s whole family is quite close with her brother-in-law’s family, we were all invited to the wedding. Since neither of us had been to Panama before, we decided to spend an extra couple days down there to explore [...]
