Tuesdays with TT: La Fonda Del Sol

Tuesdays with TT: La Fonda Del Sol

CT’s Dad has been traveling all over the world the past couple months for work.  On a recent Thursday night, CT & I were invited to dinner in order to catch up since we hadn’t seen him in a long time.  We decided on La Fonda Del Sol in the Met Life Building next to Grand Central Station.  My Dad was here for lunch a couple months back and raved about it.   I recently read the book, Appetite City by William Grimes, about the culinary history of New York.  It was very interesting and it turns out La Fonda [...]

Tuesdays with TT: BONUS: The Book of Tapas Release Party

Soon after I signed up as an official correspondent for Feisty Foodie, I was invited to a book release party in Soho. The book is called “The Book of Tapas” and there would be tapas and Spanish wine and sherry. Basically a win-win situation for me. Who doesn’t like tapas and wine? Alex Raij of Txikito and El Quinto Pino was the host of the evening. Apparently she was a contributor to the book, but not the author. The party was at the Phaidon Store in Soho. Basically a store for all of the publisher’s books. It was nice and [...]

Salon de Tapas

Salon de Tapas

AB’s birthday passed recently (errr… a while back; I keep pushing this post off), so we gathered to celebrate.  Unfortunately, I was a bit late for dinner, so as soon as I sat down, I was handed a glass of strawberry sangria (which was surprisingly REALLY good!), and didn’t stop drinking for two hours, so the pictures are incredibly blurry.  As I had no hand in the ordering process, I also don’t know the names of everything.  Oops! Slices of filet or steak of some sort.  Super tender – at one point, AB actually cut a piece in half by [...]

Pernil Dinner Party

Being quick on Facebook has its many advantages.  A friend of mine posted recently that she’d “just bought a 7 lb. pork shoulder for $6! Now, what to do?” I immediately commented, “pulled pork! or ooh, pernil!!!” and someone seconded my pernil notion.  She decided pernil sounded great, so I invited myself over by offering to make some stuff to bring over.  HAHAHA cuz that’s how I roll.  (In my defense, I hadn’t seen her in over a year… she just came back after moving to China for a year… give me some slack here people!)  The pernil in all [...]

Mama’s Empanadas

Recently, I was on my way to a special dinner party (post to come), and I wanted to pick up something to bring.  So I hit up this place nearby, which I’ve been meaning to check out anyway…  cuz lord knows I loved the empanadas in Argentina!  Do you see those prices?  Less than $2 for each one, the most expensive one I can see is $1.75!  And I would think they are very filling.  I ordered quickly but it took a few minutes – maybe a little upwards of 5? – for everything to come, so I think they [...]
