After our snack at Dominique Ansel, DLS and I met up with StB and C2 at Socarrat Paella Bar for dinner. We started off with bacalao (salted codfish) croquettes. I thought these were alright, I wanted the aioli on the bottom to have a bit more oomph or even the croquette itself to have more punch to them. They were good – but just not a standout. After reading Hungry’s post the week before about her experience at Soccarat, I wanted one thing: fried artichokes! Though I wished the portion were larger, it was just as tasty as I wanted [...]

After 456 Shanghai, StB headed home, while DLS and I began our normal post-dinner walk back to Hell’s Kitchen. It’s not torture – it’s the only way I can eat the way I do and not gain weight rapidly. (This way, it’s a slow build-up!) In any case, I also wanted to walk to Churreria, the newly opened churro place. Yes, they focus on churros, and though I’ve only mentioned it here and there, I really like churros. Quite a few times I’ve attempted to have churros and hot chocolate at various restaurants around NYC, but every time I order [...]

It’d been a while since the Birthday Brunch Bunch met up to celebrate, and with MD/PB moving to CA, we all met up just after the New Year to celebrate, say hi, and catch up. ANM chose Cafe Espanol and we headed over that Monday. Every lunch special came with a salad. Bright and fun, but nothing particularly special… tasty, though! I’ve been craving greens so this worked well, though it was a little over dressed. For my main course, I chose paella. I really like paella – it’d been a long time since I had – and was looking [...]

CT & I have been back for from our Panama trip for a little while now and already have a bunch of NYC based posts for you. Rather than let them get “stale,” we are gonna have a couple bonus posts at 12:15. Enjoy! After an afternoon of upcoming dinner prep and relaxing, we headed out to meet our friend, TX, at Boqueria for tapas. It was the last day of the Blackboard Eats deal of 30% off for the restaurant, and we knew beforehand that we definitely wanted to take advantage of this deal. We had all been to [...]

A while back, I was talking to my friend Hungry over at Tasty Eating about food in Flushing… and ice cream at Eddie’s. She mentioned how she’d actually never been to the food stalls, and also how she wanted to try Eddie’s, so we made plans to do a whole walkaround from Flushing to Eddie’s. Are we insane? A little bit. It was awesome, and we happened to pick a day that was excellent in terms of weather – not hot, and just a slight bit of cold (windy, really), so as we walked and warmed up, we never got too [...]
