TT and I “recently” visited Otto together… since I’ve been there a number of times since my first time now, I dutifully took photos so that he could give his opinion on the place. With apologies for the delay… dinner with TT at Otto:After attending a few Midtown Lunch Happy Hours with Yvo and our budding Gchat friendship, we decided to combine forces and go to Otto since I have never been before and Yvo currently has a mild obsession with it. Otto is known as the “cheap” Mario Batali place. I have not gone to any of Mario’s restaurants, [...]

A brief search of my blog tells me I mention Veniero’s quite a bit, but have never fully posted about it. This actually falls in line with my personality – when I really like something, I tend to want to keep it to myself. Okay, honestly, Veniero’s enjoys enough tourism and popularity with or without my positive endorsement, but when I’ve been asked in the past where my favorite tiramisu is – being my 2nd favorite dessert in the world – I always answer enthusiastically, “Veniero’s, but you have to get the tiramisu cup and not the slices. Their tiramisu slices have [...]

After a bit too much alcohol at Otto, the girls and I headed to nearby Patsy’s for a quick bite. I’d never been, though as an honorary NYU student, I probably should have been… since they’d all been many, many times. (Maybe I had been but didn’t remember it?)I thought my bread looked like a rabbit, so I took a photo. Yeah, I was pretty gone by this point. We split everything – penne alla vodka, which was pretty tasty – not overcooked mush, and a good flavor to the sauce. Not the best I’ve ever had, but solid.A mushroom pie [...]

As I mentioned in my post on Otto, I’d originally wanted to eat the new menu at Del Posto for lunch that day, but they had no availability. Since I took the week leading up to Christmas off, I had some flexibility and managed to score a reservation relatively easily. Yay! I started off with a Sidecar just because – well, why not? I’m on vacation… Unfortunately this was not a drink I wanted. It was on the bitter side, laugh if you want because Sidecars are probably supposed to taste like that, but I didn’t know. Our [...]

A couple of weeks ago, Serious Eats: New York posted this rave of Del Posto’s new lunch menu. I had a half day coming up, so I scrambled to get a lunch date and then a reservation. As you can see by the above photo – which is NOT of Del Posto’s front door - I probably should have done it the other way around and found myself a reservation before a date. Whoops. In any case, Lizz and I decided if we couldn’t have Del Posto, we’d have Otto – one of Batali’s other restaurants that we’ve both [...]
