Tuesdays with TT: Jubilee

Tuesdays with TT: Jubilee

It has been a couple weeks since Aunt B welcome a new member into the family, so it was time my parents came into the city to meet her.
Say Hello to Scout.

What would a trip into the city for the parents without a meal? I decided we would go to one of Aunt B’s favorite restaurants, Jubilee. The reason why it is her favorite is that their speciality is mussels. She has been coming here for years and it is always consistently good. I took her a couple months back as a Christmas present and had [...]

Bourgeois Pig

Bourgeois Pig

Fair warning: these pictures are awful.  This was the third “appointment” I had that night – first two separate press events, then dinner with a friend, and I semi-foolishly drove into the city to make things easier on me.  The night was disgustingly muggy and hot – much like the weather has been in New York – and the first two events I attended had little or no food of which to speak, so I was starving by the time I arrived at Bourgeois Pig, plus I’m not sure their air conditioning was working.  I had to ask my friend [...]

THURSDAYS with TT: DBGB Kitchen & Bar

THURSDAYS with TT: DBGB Kitchen & Bar

Over the past couple of months I have become quite the food blogger. I or (CT) bring a camera to every restaurant we go to. Since Yvo has been busy with school, I am stepping up and will now have a weekly column, Tuesdays with TT. Bon Appetit!
UPDATE: I am becoming a blogging machine, so I will also be reporting on Thursday afternoons for you.
CT’s sister and her brother-in-law are not only high school sweethearts, their birthdays are a week apart. Isn’t that cute? I was invited to the dual-family brunch to celebrate both of their birthdays [...]

Recette

Recette

StB returned home recently, so of course dinner plans were made.  She chose Recette, having heard good things.  Of course, SpB and I arrived late, both having come in from far-Queens… but I immediately ordered a fizzy drink – sparkling wine with a cube of sugar in the bottom.  It was okay.  StB ordered the razor clams with a chili compote.  She said it was tasty.  ($9)HB and I both ordered duck carpaccio with chicken liver mousse and apple slivers.  I liked this dish quite a lot, but at the same time, honestly?  $12 for the above and that’s a [...]

Le Pain Quotidien

Le Pain Quotidien

My quick snack at Le Pain Quotidien - the Atlantic smoked salmon tartine, with chopped dill, scallions and avocado.A lot of bright flavors going on, which was really a nice pre-karaoke bite.  I enjoyed this quite a bit – a schmear of avocado, a bit of cucumber or turnip, salad – whatever was on the plate, I pretty much added on top and ate… and it was quite good.  Yvo says: The last time I was at Le Pain Quotidien, I enjoyed it enough, but commented on the price.  As that was over two years ago, the prices have gone up [...]
