Zutto

Zutto

After a day of shopping, I met up with Tommy to grab a bite to eat. I left the choice up to him, so he went with Zutto. We started with the Maryland roll – avocado, lump crab, tuna and caviar. I wasn’t too thrilled with the roe being on the side like that, but took to dipping my pieces in it… this was OK. I was hoping for something more interesting based on the description, but it was just… okay. Tommy ordered a spicy ramen. He liked it. There was a sign on the wall that explained ramen and [...]

Mo C Mo C

Mo C Mo C

Last month, CT and I head down to Princeton, NJ for the day to welcome her Mom back from her latest sabbatical to India. Fortunately, this time around was only for a month and not longer. After spending the afternoon with her and CT’s Dad, we went for an early dinner before heading back to NYC. After hearing our options, we decided to get Japanese food at Mo C Mo C right in the heart of town. Unfortunately, the online menu does not have prices listed so I can’t tell you how much each dish cost. I can say that [...]

Hatsuhana

Hatsuhana

On DLS‘s birthday, I made a point to go into the city and have lunch with him at Hatsuhana, chosen both for its proximity to his work place and because when I mentioned having gone there months earlier, he seemed interested in visiting one of NYC’s oldest sushi restaurants.  Funny enough, I didn’t realize it was the other location that was closer to him, and this location is pretty hidden away… which made it a bit difficult for him to find.  Whoops!    After we’d ordered, our salads came.  Once again, fresh, and bright from the ginger carrot dressing, I [...]

Sushi Yasu

Sushi Yasu

I love my neighborhood for too many reasons to list, good food being one of the top ones… and food good enough for other people to leave their boroughs to visit my neighborhood is definitely included in that.  In all fairness, I suppose I sort of coerced DLS to come to Forest Hills, but the promise of very good, fresh sushi, is a great enough reason, isn’t it?  Sushi Yasu has to be the best sushi place in my area – I easily rank it up among the Manhattan places in terms of freshness – but I hadn’t been since [...]

Hatsuhana

Hatsuhana

I recently had the pleasure of dining with my friend Melissa at Hatsuhana, a rather nice sushi restaurant in midtown that I must have walked by a few times but never noticed.  She said she’d read good things about it, and I was more than happy to accompany her there – I’d not had real sushi in a while.  While we sat and browsed the menu, Melissa noted how cute the chopstick rest was along with the teeny tiny bud vase, and suggested I take a photo.  It was hard to snap, so here is my artsy attempt.  We chose [...]
