After the first time I went to Ranger BBQ, Noah and I decided to wander into a nearby store that promised kulfi, a type of Indian ice cream. Something in the pastry case caught his eye, so he also picked up two cookies. I think these were pistachio – I wound up trying a little bit, and it was chewy, nutty, and tasty. I don’t know that this was something I would go out of my way to pick up for myself – if you really like pistachios, though, this might be to your liking. (Perhaps Noah will chime in [...]

BIG NEWS ON THE HOME FRONT: I asked CT to move in with me and she said YES! She may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time she made her decision. Not sure, hehe. On a recent Sunday, her Dad came into town with the station wagon to make the first of many trips from her place to mine. Luckily, her apartment is only five blocks from mine, which made the actually moving of boxes pretty easy. Since CT’s Dad was coming in early to help, we decided last minute to have Indian Brunch. This was decided [...]

One recent afternoon found me wandering midtown in search of lunch. A quick call to Beer Boor, who works in the area, and I found myself at Minar, one of the favored Indian restaurants. I’d heard that it was pretty good, but what intrigued me was… well, I tend to avoid this style of cafeteria/steam table Indian restaurant because I never find my favorite dishes. I’d never realized that you could order off the menu instead of just picking from what was in the steam table, so when I discovered that you could do this here, I was pretty happy. [...]

CT will be spending the holidays in South Africa with some friends and her parents will be going to India, so it was decided we should all get together the Sunday before everyone leaves. CT’s parents have been itching to use their kitchen, so brunch was home-cooked at their new apartment. Yes, CT & I did go to the FBM Holiday Potluck the day before and were still full, but we are FBM for life!! We started off with some Ground Beef Chop. CT’s Mom must have made 20 of them for five people. She definitely is an honoree member [...]

Oh, Tabla. You are connected to Eleven Madison Park, which I adored earlier this year. You are also home to what has been derided as “overpriced Indian food” constantly. I have an Indian place I love to go to, so I had no interest in trying you. But now, you are closing. At the end of the year, you will close your doors forever, and still I hesitated. Should I go? Should I pretend you never were? I enjoyed a tikka masala dish I once had from you via Fresh Direct, and I do enjoy Danny Meyer’s choices regularly. After [...]
