Recently, post-class, I snagged a friend and off we went to Blue Ribbon. It wasn’t quite late enough to catch the chefs as they came off shift, but it was late enough but still packed, so we sat at the bar right in front of this lovely sight: the yummy seafood display. We even watched as the guy put together a seafood tower that looked awesome, but alas, two people cannot justify eating all that. (Well… we could… but I had eaten dinner and just wanted a light bite.) CL opted to get the shrimp remoulade; I believe [...]

This year, I got it in my head that I wanted to go to Blue Hill at Stone Barns. When I get things in my head like that, they don’t usually go away. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize just how impossible it is to get a reservation there. I tried for lunch. I tried for dinner. I tried for everything, and still, no luck. They take reservations up to two months in advance and I was never lucky enough to manage to get a reservation, not even one that I couldn’t use. I thought it was hopeless, despite [...]

The House that Hospitality built… hehe. HB and I had recently discovered we both wanted to try Union Square Cafe, and she had the foresight to make reservations for a night we were both free. Away we go…
The decor as you step in immediately explains the name. It looks like a very cute cafe. A nice cafe, but a cafe nonetheless.
Something that I must say immediately: our service was extremely odd. I won’t say poor, because we were not ignored, nor were we treated rudely, just… our server gave us our menus, but did not offer us a wine list, [...]

I’ve been here and blogged about it before. But I went again, ate something different, took some more pictures, so why not?
Orzo recently had a birthday, turning 28 (sucka! I still got 6 months!), and in order to properly celebrate his entering old age – always, always, he’ll be 6 months ahead of me in that department – I took him out for lunch in the area. His choice, he could have chosen Burger Shoppe, Harry’s, Mark Joseph, Adrienne’s Pizzabar, Bobby Van’s, Roy’s, Delmonico’s, Fraunces Tavern, anywhere in the area. Well, he chose Fraunces Tavern, so that’s where we went.
Coincidentally [...]
Park Avenue Autumn

For HB’s recent birthday (it seems all I do is post about birthdays anymore! haha), I searched for a long time for a brunch place that would take a reservation for 10. Unfortunately, all the places we really wanted to try (Danal, specifically, which sounds so good!, or Eatery) would not give us reservations, so we settled on Park Avenue Autumn. I was a bit wary if only because of my previous experience at its previous incarnation as Park Avenue Cafe, but the menu sounded quite delish and they were willing to give us last minute reservations for the prime [...]
