Bourbon Street: Bayside

I actually came here with LTS a few days before I departed for San Francisco, but haven’t had the opportunity to post about it yet.  Since it’s been so long, and I didn’t take notes, I’m just going to share the pictures and the overall feeling with which I came away from the place. On a Tuesday night, the place was fairly empty, which worked out in our favor.  I can imagine the place being quite a bit louder if there ere more people around, so I was happy that the large place had just a few tables of people scattered [...]

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras, as the name suggests, is a restaurant specializing in Louisiana/New Orleans/Southern/Cajun/Creole cooking.  A pretty lofty goal, I admit, and though I’d been here once before – uhhh, 5 years ago, actually, possibly to the day (my memory has weird quirks: I know with whom I went, I know I almost slapped him, but I have no idea what I ordered nor if I liked it or not, and most days, I can’t remember what I ate yesterday, which is why I take pictures of everything… that, and I like to) – I was game to try it again [...]

Whoops, forgot to take a picture of the outside once again… For PB’s birthday this past weekend, she chose a pretty funky-fun looking place: Maroons Restaurant.  The website lauded it as Caribbean meets Southern meets Soul meets Cajun, and I was really excited about the po’boys, the red velvet cake (which, as you can see, I’ve been into lately), and all the various offerings on hand!  AND ordered the gumbo to start, and found it kind of bland, nothing interesting.  He said it was a teensy bit spicy but nothing that great, and it looked kind of watery from where [...]

The Delta Grill

Corner of 49th and 9th AvenueReservations suggested I was very excited to try this place because I’d heard good things about it from John a while back when we had a long discussion over where to get BBQ.  He’d mentioned it at the time but hadn’t yet been there, and said when he’d sampled their BBQ ribs during the Big Apple BBQ fest one year, it was good, so he wanted to go.  Of course when my friends suggested it for dinner this past Friday, I was game.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get to talk to John (via email, of course!) until [...]

Mother’s – New Orleans

Mother’s – New Orleans

401 Poydras St New Orleans, LA 70130-3207 (504) 523-9656 Citysearch Profile which, unless I’m mistaken, says that this place is still open!  Rejoice!!! devoured August 2003 (two visits) Mother’s isn’t exactly- ok, it’s not even in the tourist district.  It’s on the edge of the business district, which, lucky for us, meant it was only a block or two away from our hotel.  Walking distance.  Which was good because we went our first day in NO, and by the end of the trip a few days later, we had enjoyed it so thoroughly that we were craving it and went back again.  Either [...]
