Mi Tio

Mi Tio

I actually wrote about Mi Tio a while ago (over 4 years ago now), but recently returned to see if it was still worth all the fond memories I have of this place.  As I mention in that post, I’ve been going to this place since my father was still alive.  It used to be a very small, hole-in-the-wall, family oriented joint; it doesn’t seem to have changed much from that save the ‘hole-in-the-wall’ description, as it’s expanded quite a bit in the past 10+ years and looks almost fancy.  Almost.  In any case, the prices have changed only [...]

Argentina: Day 6: Final Dinner in Buenos Aires, Rodizio

Still seeking our all-you-can-eat restaurant, upon our return to Buenos Aires (and the same hotel), our concierge directed us to Rodizio, of which I looked up the meaning once back in the States and discovered that Rodizio is the style of cuisine (where the Brazilian restaurants keep bringing you more and more meat), not churrascaria.  Oops!

This is going to be a picture-intensive post, so bear with me.  Also, keep in mind while looking at these pictures, this entire meal cost us $27 USD.

Bread with tangy butter spread on the table

As soon as we sat down, they served us this, which [...]

Argentina: Day 5: Parilla El Quincho Del Tio Querido

For our very last dinner in Iguazu Falls, we wanted churrascaria.  Brazilian, as we know it back here in NYC, where they come around and keep feeding you meat and don’t stop… Yum.  (Yes, we decided one night off meat was enough.)  Though we were clearly in Argentina, we figured since we were at the border of Argentina & Brazil, we should be able to find a really authentic one…
Unfortunately, through the language barrier arose a miscommunication or misunderstanding, and we were sent here.  A happy mistake… this was no churrascaria as we know it in NYC- where the meat [...]

Argentina: Day 5: Las Cataratas Hotel Snack Bar

On our last day in Iguazu Falls, we decided to try eating at one of the nearby hotels.  We’d heard that Las Cataratas actually had a good buffet, which wasn’t open when we went, so instead we decided to just eat at their snack bar… very good call, nearly as soon as we sat down, the skies opened up and it poured.

Hey, it is the rainforest, right?  (As several people “reminded” me when I lamented the rain upon my return.)
Typical, normal hotel snack bar fare, but I took pictures anyway.

MD/PB ordered a sandwich whose components escaped me, but it looks [...]

Argentina: Day 4: "Please, no more meat" Dinner at Aqua

**if you look closely, you can see me in the reflection, holding up my camera
By our 2nd night in Iguazu, my friends were getting a bit tired of red meat and craved salads, greens, anything but steak.  The brimming-with-useful-suggestions concierge slash owner of the hotel we stayed at – the RioTropic – strongly recommended Aqua, a seafood restaurant, and so off we went.
The place inside distinctly reminded us of a converted steakhouse with a country western theme- gleaming wood, wood floors, wood everywhere but not the dark wood we’re used to in NYC steakhouses – a rustic mix of [...]
