Ayza Chocolate & Wine Bar – Downtown

Ayza Chocolate & Wine Bar – Downtown

While I try to post every meal I consume, that just isn’t possible. So while I’ve posted about Ayza midtown you may not realize that I’ve been there a good handful of times – with the girls usually – to snack, drink, or both. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere, the outdoor seating, the snacks and everything, but only posted about it that one time. Well, I was invited to go to the newest Ayza location – downtown – and have a ‘date night’ as it was called. We were greeted with little cups of spiced wine. I’m abstaining from alcohol currently, [...]

Chikalicious

Chikalicious

Post-Pizza Roma, FS and I walked over to Chikalicious to continue our dessert bar exploration. I was pretty confused by there being two locations, directly across the street from each other, but one was closed. Turns out the Dessert Bar – which boasts wine pairings if you like – is only open on weekends, while the Dessert Club is a more casual setting, with counter service only. Funny, it was empty but as soon as we sat down, it became super packed. A moment here to say – I normally go out of my way to praise excellent service. Well, [...]

5 Leaves

5 Leaves

A while back, I posted about Minetta Tavern and lamented a burger that didn’t live up to its hype (which is quite common in this fair city, actually).  Scott Gold (celebrated author of The Shameless Carnivore – affiliate link) responded that he’d been enjoying the burger at 5 Leaves in Brooklyn and suggested I give it a go, and as I happened to be in the area the next day, I decided to check it out. There’s no denying that when I approached the restaurant, I grew rather concerned based on the demographic being served already. I was surprised that [...]

Parm

Parm

Parm has been on our radar since it was first announced last year. They had a “preview” with a stand at Yankee Stadium, where Beer Boor thoroughly enjoyed the meatball parm sandwich. A couple months later, the store front was opened next door to their sister restaurant, Torrisi Italian Specialities. The Torrisi guys can be considered the chefs of the moment here in NYC and can do no wrong. We tried going before one of CT’s volunteer sessions previously, but the wait was too long for us so we went to La Esquina instead. We then read that TC really [...]

NYC Healthy Bites

NYC Healthy Bites

Recently, I was invited to an event at Garmento Lab to showcase a few healthy ways to eat. One of the products there was Pop Chips – which I’ve blogged about in the past -  and a coconut water company. I obviously avoided the coconut water (had no interest in dying, thanks! – allergic) – but I was surprised to find that Pop Chips has a new flavor: Sweet Potato!  I didn’t manage to try them that night, but funny enough, a week later my good friend TC gave me a large bag of them ‘just because’. Though they were [...]
