After our pork-fest at Sa Aming Nayon, we decided we needed something sweet to cleanse our palates. We decided to go for ice cream at the new Big Gay Ice Cream Shop, which was just a couple blocks away. Neither of us had ever gone to the truck, which is usually found in the Union Square area in the Summer, so we said hell to our waistlines! We’re on vacation! Who cares if it’s December and 30 degrees out? While we were waiting to order, one of the owners, Doug, handed us some free samples of a new ice cream [...]

Apartment hunting makes me hungry… especially when the real estate agent starts listing all the great restaurants in the area. When he mentioned The Meatball Shop, DLS glanced at me and immediately decided he wanted to go there. I wasn’t going to argue – I’d really enjoyed my last visit, and have wanted to return since then… and it was unusual to see him make a decision so quickly, so I was definitely not going to interfere! After we walked the few blocks to the West Village location, there was the shortest of waits before we were seated at the [...]

What do people in NYC do on Sunday mornings? They have brunch, of course. DLS and I headed to one of my neighborhood staples, 5 Burro Cafe, one December Sunday morning, because I’d been curious about the brunch there for quite a while. DLS ordered the Western omelet, which he liked. (And yes, I teased him for ordering what I thought was the least Mexican dish on the menu.) I’ve enjoyed huevos rancheros at many places in the past, so I saw no reason not to get these here. Well, the rancheros sauce here – the red underneath my eggs [...]

Sometimes life just doesn’t go quite the way you planned – so it was one December Friday when TC and I headed to Philly and instead wound up at Daisy May’s in Hell’s Kitchen. As you can see from that post I linked, we both went earlier in the year and found it lacking. However, this time around, with our creamed spinach, mac&cheese, cheesy corn, collard greens, sweet & sticky ribs and dry rub… we were both really pleased. I really enjoyed my cheesy corn, collard greens, and sweet & sticky ribs, while TC liked his dishes as well. The [...]

The day before the FBM Holiday Potluck, CT and I had a bunch of errands to run to prepare our place for the festivities, but planned on stopping somewhere for lunch. The burger at Brindle Room has been on our radar for a while now ever since Noah from Law and Food told me it was his favorite burger in NYC. With confirmation from Yvo here, here, and here, we had to check it out and that was a perfect day for it. After walking in, the first thing we noticed is that the restaurant was tiny! I could almost [...]
