I’m not that big on Valentine’s Day in general, especially the zoo that the restaurant industry becomes around that day. This year, it fell on a Sunday, and it disturbed me that a certain Batali restaurant had a special menu for that day which cost xx, but also offered the same ’special’ menu on Friday and Saturday before Valentine’s Day… for half that price. I just think that’s rude! It was blatant and out there… not cool. (Admittedly, at least one other Batali restaurant had no special menu at all for Valentine’s Day, which boosted my opinion of that one [...]
City Crab & Seafood Company – Restaurant Week

Recently, Dr. PB and MK wanted to grab lunch in the city… it happened to be Restaurant Week (which I’ve decried extensively in the past), and they wanted to check out City Crab. It surprises some people that I’m generally not one to complain about restaurant choice – this topic came up when a friend found out I was at an Applebee’s with some non-food-obsessed friends. Honestly, I go out to eat with my friends mostly to hang out with my friends; if they’re food-inclined, great, we’ll eat somewhere awesome (and, as you can see, most of my friends are [...]

For a recent girls’ night, we hit up Bravest because I was informed there would be firemen. Unfortunately, there were no firemen. There were, however, fried foods. Starting with fried zucchini, which was cut into cute little bite-size strips with a lovely ranch for dipping. I liked these a lot. Cooked still tender but not too crisp… yum. A basket of fries, of course, for SpB. Again, fried to the right degree. Good stuff. And last but not least – fried pickles! A few of my friends looked at me oddly, but hell, whatever. And these were way better than those [...]

I’ve written about Urban Lobster Shack before, but I went there before my departure from the Financial District one last time to check out their new lunch special – $10 for a lobster roll and a Caesar salad. The lobster roll with container of cole slaw and Caesar dressing.
Caesar salad, which was alright, pretty standard, nothing amazing. The dressing was really flavorful though – very garlicky and creamy, which was pretty cool. Not sure if they make it themselves, but I wasn’t complaining. The lobster roll, however… well, last time I’d complained that it was missing that sweet lobster taste. This [...]
Ferrara’s

After a recent dinner with Spicy Ninja and Cookie, they wanted something sweet to nibble on post-dinner (shabu shabu at Quickly - that’s almost 4 years old, the prices are now $14.95). We wandered over to Ferrara’s and ordered a trio of mini-pastries. Napoleon was up first: Bavarian cream filled Pan’di Spagna covered with icing. It was alright; not my type of dessert. Not very attractive to look at, but by far the one I liked the best: the Dacquoise – bittersweet chocolate pouch filled with praline & gianduia cream. The outside shell was not too sweet, and was filled with [...]
