Last weekend, I invited KJ with me to enjoy all that Coney Island & Luna Park has to offer. I’ve visited Coney Island several times over the years, but always for a Cyclones game and not much else – wandering the boardwalk, ogling the coasters, but mostly the game. But this time, armed with a Luna Pass entitling us to unlimited rides, we undertook…
THE CONEY ISLAND COASTER CONQUEST!!!
Jinx was pretty pissed that he wasn’t tall enough to ride ANY OF THE RIDES!! I smuggled him in my dress so he still got to ride them though he couldn’t see very well out of my dress…
We stopped for some snacks at a place on the boardwalk that’s takeout counter in the front, tables with a lovely view of the beach and water, and all club in the back. KJ and I aren’t into the club thing, so we sat out front and snacked. Fried shrimp quesadilla here …
Chicken flautas here…
Stuffed jalapeno poppers here…
Trio of tacos there…
Super strong frozen watermelon margarita here… 3 ounces of tequila strong, yo! Not overly sweet but perfect for the hot day while we sat there yakking away!
But the literal best part? CONEY’S CONES!! which underwent a menu revamp earlier this year and switched to all gelato, all the time! Pictured here is my mango + peanut butter (in the back). Peanut butter was absolutely delicious, with crunchy chunks scattered throughout and super creamy, not overly sweet. But mango was the winner for me – tasting like summer, tropical funtimes and happiness! It even had pieces of mango in there, reminding you just how natural and fresh it was. SO GOOD.
KJ ordered raspberry and milano cookie – yes, cookie! – and went bananas over her raspberry. I didn’t try any (I occasionally have an allergic reaction to raspberries), but she was pretty happy with it.
Coincidentally, there’s a contest going on right now for you to vote on the next flavor to grace their delicious freezers!! Personally, since I’m allergic to coconut, I’m sure you can guess which got my vote, but… check it out here!! Winning flavor will be announced on August 17, so fingers crossed — my choice sounds particularly delicious! 😉
BTW — if you like rollercoasters at all, YOU NEED TO GO ON THE CYCLONE. $9 per ride or get the Luna Pass and go on it repeatedly – KJ and I went on it twice in a row which was almost too much – IT IS INSANE AND INSANELY FUN AND I DID NOT STOP SCREAMING THE ENTIRE TIME. I mean like whoa. We also went on Thunderbolt, during which I couldn’t even open my eyes, the Tickler which was a good intro (it was our first ride of the day), and WindStarZ, the newest ride there, it’s interactive (you can control it going up and down – sounds a little silly but when you ride it, it’s pretty cool – and almost made us lose our cookies after everything else).
I can’t wait for my next opportunity to get down there and wander the boardwalk and go on the Cyclone some more!!!
***We received our Luna passes and all of the above food courtesy of Luna Park’s PR team. I was under no obligation to post about this, nor did I receive any monetary compensation to do so. Seriously, check out the Cyclone. And the gelato. The gelato was amazing. I wish I had some right now. Hmm…
