Corner Burger

May 23, 2012 by Feisty Foodie 7 Comments

You already know about the hunt for poutine – DLS‘s favorite savory snack – so I told him a while back that I’d take him to the only place I personally know in NYC (well, Brooklyn) that has a long list of poutines available: Corner Burger.

Corner Burger 2 03.jpgThis time, I did get the Monkey Milk Shake I wanted last time – vanilla ice cream, milk, bananas and honey. It was really good – and when I couldn’t finish it but we wanted to leave for our next activity (mini golf, finally!), they put it in a to-go cup for me. The honey flavor was pronounced though the overall effect wasn’t cloyingly sweet, and the banana made the whole thing very filling.

Corner Burger 2 01.jpgHaving learned his lesson, DLS opted for the classic poutine and was rewarded with crisp fries, squeaky curds and savory gravy. I think he liked this, though when I asked him to rank his favorites of the poutines we’ve tried, this ranked pretty low. I guess the trip to Brooklyn won’t be necessary next time…

Corner Burger 2 02.jpgI didn’t feel like eating a messy burger, so I chose the chili poutine – listed under “American style poutine” – and was rewarded with basically chili cheese fries. I was only able to eat about half of this before I had to give up – between the shake and the heavy dish, it was just too much.

Yvo says: I’m glad I was able to go back and try the classic poutine, but now I honestly feel that I have no reason to return. If I were in the area – it would be Chip Shop next door, no question. Ah well.

how were the cheese fries? properly level of flavor in fries, how was chili spiced, was it all melted chedder or mix with cheese sauce, etc. I am always looking for a solid chili fry place-

Doubt it’s this place. The cheese was shredded – no liquid cheese (one of my weaknesses) – though the fries were crisp and pretty good. The chili was pretty weak – I mean, I would love to say that it was homemade, but it tasted super generic, almost like from a can. Sorry!

There are better fried pickles elsewhere around the city – I can easily help you put together that type of meal with better options that are easier to get to than Park Slope (I don’t think you live very close to PS). We’re supposed to hang out in a few weeks anyway right? Maybe we can do fried pickles/burger/shake/cheese fries somewhere!

Oh, shakes and fries. I don’t feel excited about the poutine. Needs duck fat or a ton of meat in it. 😛

So when are we doing Chip Shop AND a Corner Burger burger for lunch? LOL.
