I was recently invited to the McDonald’s First Taste Event – announcing what new items they’d have for the summer (like last year). This time, we got to sample the new oatmeal and new fruit smoothies – I couldn’t try the smoothies because it had an ingredient to which I am allergic, but I gamely tried the oatmeal. I’m not a huge fan of oatmeal in general – I have a description for how I feel about the oatmeal that is not suitable for publication on a food site (the description is vile and off-putting, intentionally so) – but this wasn’t so bad. I think I might like oatmeal if I started making it with fresh fruit in it…
In any case, I was pleased to see that the oatmeal is no longer a sugar & calorie bomb – this one clocks in at just under 300 calories. Not bad – it’s a positive step forward, anyway…
Please note that I attended this event courtesy of McDonald’s, but was under no obligation to post about it and received no monetary compensation to do so.

Glad to see that they’re trying to put some actual healthy items on the menu.

They’ve been trying for a while – one can never say that McDonald’s just sits and stays the same because they know people will still eat it. They definitely try to keep expanding their menu and improving, growing with the times and needs of the people, and I respect that.
