As I’ve mentioned, I love theme nights… and this time it was beer & pizza (minus beer)!

That night, Hungry, Sarah and I headed over to check out Hell’s Kitchen newcomer Capizzi. We ordered two pizzas to share – our server (who I think was also the owner) came over and served us, so I only got a photo of the whole pie for the above “loaded” specialty pie: provolone, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, roasted peppers, garlic & fresh oregano.

Our other pie, prosciutto&arugula, with requisite upskirt: was very flavorful, with a nice char, though it was a little softer than I expected. I enjoyed my slice very much.

Upskirt of the loaded pie. I really liked the flavor of this one better – meatier, heartier, and overall a really nice combination of ingredients. I did wind up with a second slice of this pie when it came to divvying up what was left!

Unfortunately, the bottom line here is the price. It’s located underneath the off-ramp of the Lincoln Tunnel, directly across from the backend of the Port Authority on 9th Ave, next to a soup kitchen… so it’s already not in the best location, but then the price just… well, the pizzas were pretty small – I could easily eat an entire one by myself and still be hungry, not just ‘have room for more’ (because we know I have a lot of room for food). I know we each paid over $20 with tax and tip, and that’s for two pizzas, a glass of wine, and two sodas (which came in glass bottles, which is pretty cool, but still). According to their website, our specialty pizzas were $25 each… considering the size, that’s really quite outrageous. While they were good, they were not outrageous-price good by a long shot.

Yvo says: The pizza was pretty good, but definitely not at those prices. I was still a little hungry afterwards, which is ridiculous. At these prices, there are definitely other pizza places I would rather visit. Hopefully they’ll figure a way to lower their prices (or make the pizzas bigger!) and still cover their overhead. Till then, I doubt I’ll be back.

    I’ll give them the fresh ingredients, but at 25 bucks a pop, even I would leave hungry.

  3. I agree that a $25 has to be extremely good!There are so many good pizza in NY for a better price.

    This was good pizza but I agree that it was pricey. Unfortunately, there is a drought of good affordable pizza places in HK.
