Cancer sucks. There’s no other way to put it. Honestly, this is a food blog so I rarely if ever talk about it, but cancer is definitely one of those things that I just don’t understand – especially that, with all of our advances in medicine and science, how we still haven’t found the cure. Or at least a preventative. Or something!!! It’s so frustrating to know that we’re still not there yet. With that in mind, I recently signed up for a Foodbuzz Tastemaker’s Program to help spread awareness about a really special program. From my email: Did you [...]

You know, last year was the birthday of Michelin stars, but this year I wanted to make it the birthday of fried chicken. I REALLY like fried chicken. Hungry asked me to give her a list of places I’d like to celebrate my birthday, so I picked a bunch of fried chicken focused meals, and eventually the list was culled down to Brooklyn Star, where for $20/person, they were offering fried chicken dinners. Hello, lovely! I made my darling KC go to Brooklyn Though we didn’t really need the menu, Hungry and I looked it over while we waited for [...]

October is quite the birthday month for my and CT’s family. We started with Aunt B’s at Otto then CT’s Dad at Zabb Elee and ended the month with my Mom’s birthday. Due to busy schedules, we celebrated on a Friday night (hanging out with the parents on the Friday? eww.) but it also happened to be my Mom’s actual birthday. I decided it would be easiest for everyone to eat somewhere in the neighborhood. Fortunately, there have been a bunch of new restaurant openings over the past couple months. One such opening was The Three Hens. I read about [...]

Having a birthday means eating lots of good food with good friends. The Monday of my birthday week this year, TC planned a group dinner for me at one of my favorite casual places in New York – I’ve eaten here a handful of times, which is something of a record high for me for this style of restaurant. I just really enjoy the atmosphere, the laidback attitude, the reasonable prices… And I love introducing people to this place. Surprisingly, on this night, three of our group of six had never been before, one hadn’t been in years, and then [...]

I recently had the pleasure of dining with my friend Melissa at Hatsuhana, a rather nice sushi restaurant in midtown that I must have walked by a few times but never noticed. She said she’d read good things about it, and I was more than happy to accompany her there – I’d not had real sushi in a while. While we sat and browsed the menu, Melissa noted how cute the chopstick rest was along with the teeny tiny bud vase, and suggested I take a photo. It was hard to snap, so here is my artsy attempt. We chose [...]
