CT & I have been back for from our Panama trip for a little while now and already have a bunch of NYC based posts for you. Rather than let them get “stale,” we are gonna have a couple bonus posts. Enjoy! After getting back from our wonderful trip in Panama, we were lucky enough to be invited by my parents to another dinner at the James Beard House. This time around was a dinner featuring a vineyard and bistro from Kentucky called Jean Farris. I am sure many of you have never drank wine from Kentucky before and neither [...]

I’ve long joked that I will not write about Parkside until announcing my engagement to BF. He took me here for our first official date, and it’s long been one of those hidden gem types of places that Queens has in abundance. I’ll take an awkward moment here to note that I am now posting about Parkside… but BF and I have decided to part ways. I don’t normally share much of my personal life on here – especially regarding BF (beyond his food tastes) – so I ask that you respect my request for privacy. Just know that from [...]

Back towards the beginning of the year, CT and I learned that CT’s Sister’s Sister-in-Law would be getting married in Panama at the end of July. Why Panama? The Bride’s parents live down there now full-time. We learned that Panama has a huge ex-pat population mostly because it is so cheap and the U.S. Dollar is the functional currency down there. Since CT’s whole family is quite close with her brother-in-law’s family, we were all invited to the wedding. Since neither of us had been to Panama before, we decided to spend an extra couple days down there to explore [...]

Another fun event of Barilla’s Summer of Italy is the Road to Casa Barilla. Taking place over the course of the three weeks leading up to Casa Barilla, Road to Casa Barilla involves adorable Fiats parked all over the city, handing out tickets to Casa Barilla to those who find them. They’ll be Tweeting their location so be sure to follow them on Twitter. You might think: so what, what’s the big deal? I can just pay $5 for tickets to Casa Barilla. Yes, you can, but… The first 5 people at each location to check in on Four Square [...]
Cafe Mingala

With Second Avenue subway construction well underway in the East 70s, a lot of businesses are struggling. Add scaffolding over your restaurant to the mix and it’s a real challenge. What that means to me, is a compelling reason to try a restaurant in my neighborhood that I’ve been told to visit for many months. Mingala is probably the only Burmese restaurant left in Manhattan. After its sister location closed in the East Village, my friend CC — partially Burmese herself — recommended the Upper East Side outpost, so (eventually) off we went. No outside photo due to the scaffold [...]
