After I’d spoken highly of Nom Wah, my girlfriends decided they wanted dim sum for dinner one night. So after Brindle Room, I walked down towards Chinatown for some Nom Wah.
I arrived about 5 minutes late, but a miscommunication led to HB and StB ordering a ton of food before anyone else got there (they thought I’d said that the food took a while to be made). First up, ha cheung or shrimp in rice noodle rolls. Again, very fresh, slippery noodles… yum! I will say they weren’t as good as last time, but still very good.
Rice crueller wrapped in rice noodle rolls. The rice cruellers suffered a bit for not being freshly fried, though overall, it was fine.
Ha gow, or crystal shrimp dumplings.
Lo bak go, or turnip cakes, with oyster sauce. I wished these were fried just a touch bit crisper on the outside.
Shrimp shu mai. Very fresh, these were actually really good.
Bacon wrapped deep fried shrimp balls.
Pea shoot shrimp dumplings.
Vegetable dumplings.
Yvo says: I enjoyed the dim sum again, though my friends had some mixed feelings on the dishes we had. It’s always fun eating dim sum with people I’ve been eating with for years, but rarely have eaten dim sum with – everyone orders so differently from each other, based on how we eat with our families… In any case, I enjoyed Nom Wah again, and will definitely be back with other friends who want to try it.
recommended, fresh dim sum made to order, yum
