Tuesdays with TT: Mad. Sq. Eats. Take Two

Tuesdays with TT: Mad. Sq. Eats. Take Two

It is truly amazing how quickly time flies by. In this case, the end of Mad. Sq. Eats was quickly approaching (June 3rd). The combination of errands in the area and CT being out of town next weekend, motivated us to return for a Saturday lunch. I was keen on trying some of the things we didn’t get to try last time and seeing if any of the stalls had some new offerings. Last time, we were there on a Friday night and Sunday afternoon so we missed out on ilili’s whole roasted lamb. Unfortunately, since we were having a [...]

Ellicottville Brewing Company

Ellicottville Brewing Company

Even — okay, especially — on vacation, I like to find places to enjoy a couple of local beers and kick back with friends. Headed upsate to Olean, home to St. Bonaventure University and my nephew’s graduation, I decided to drive a little farther and check out Ellicottville Brewing Company, one of two EBC brewpubs in western New York (the other is in Fredonia). I invited a friend to come down, and we met up in Ellicottville. EBC is situated on a side street, but then, most of Ellicottville is side streets. The space screams small-town America, and it’s very [...]

BCD Tofu House

BCD Tofu House

After a recent Midtown Lunch Happy Hour at Gingerman, I was starving after not being satisfied by a simple pretzel.  So I grabbed the group that remained and we headed a few blocks to K-town and hit up BCD Tofu, which Hungry had been asking about a few weeks ago. Per usual, they loaded us up on banchan, the complimentary dishes that precede meals at Korean restaurants.  BCD Tofu is known to be extra generous, and this time was no exception.    Broccoli with some sort of spicy ketchup drizzled on top.  A scoop of mashed potatoes.  I mean potato [...]

Sarge’s Delicatessen

Sarge’s Delicatessen

To me, lazy Sunday nights necessitate comfort food. While it also usually requires staying in, I had a Groupon for Sarge’s Delicatessen, so I dragged CT out for dinner. It wasn’t easy considering she had a bachelorette party and bridal shower over the weekend, but I guess she really does like me enough to come out even when she is exhausted. I consider Sarge’s to be one of the most underrated Jewish delis in Manhattan. While it doesn’t have the history of 2nd Avenue Deli or Katz’s, it still has been around for almost 50 years. While prices have gone [...]

Doughnut Plant & Robicellis

Doughnut Plant & Robicellis

After all you can eat ribs at RUB, I wanted something sweet. (Yes, I’m quite a bit behind – you can see by the date on that post and the date on this one…) Hungry pointed out that Doughnut Plant‘s newest location in Chelsea was just next door, so we took a stroll. I picked up a toasted sesame donut since it was late in the day and they were out of most everything else.  Very toasty sesame in terms of flavor.  Not too sweet.  And a good chew to the donut.  Overall, though, I wasn’t that into the donut [...]
