Guac-off for Cancer

Guac-off for Cancer

Recently, the Feisty Foodie family received an invitation to the Guac-Off for Cancer at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. Laurie’s Buffalo Gourmet, a small producer of tortilla chips and salsas was hosting this event with 100% of all proceeds supporting Hope Lodge. The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge NYC is the only facility in Manhattan that provides free temporary housing and care to patients and their families whose lives are impacted by cancer while they are undergoing treatment. It turns out the Hope Lodge was across the street from my office. Not only convenient, but a really great cause! [...]

Ginger Man

Ginger Man

I am constantly trying to expand my horizons.  I used to not really like wine, but I’ve explored my way through to find some wine I really enjoy, and am still learning to appreciate the finer vintages.  I really detest beer, but since hiring Beer Boor to write about beer for the Feisty Foodie, I’ve tried many more beers than I ever thought I’d try in my lifetime.  I mean, with most things, I’ll keep re-trying just to see if I’ll suddenly develop an appreciation for it, but with beer, being that I tend to dislike the taste of the [...]

Prevention.com’s Best Packaged Foods, 2011

Prevention recently celebrated the announcement of their top packaged foods list by throwing a great dinner for a few people, incorporating many of the different winners into the meal.  They held this event at an amazingly cute place called Cooking by the Book, which came complete with a huge kitchen for us to cook the recipes they’d created for us using those foods.   All along the walls of this adorable loft were cookbooks. I think I could happily browse through the entire place for hours at a time, pulling books down, flipping through, taking notes, putting books back, and repeating this process. I honestly think that [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Food Gallery 32 & Paris Baguette

Tuesdays with TT: Food Gallery 32 & Paris Baguette

Last week, I was in a kimbap mood. I knew I wanted fresh kimbap, so Woorijip and its pre-made offerings were off the table. I was planning on going to E-mo, the tiny hole-in-the-wall shop to shop to support my Korean aunt that owns the place, but also thought about making a return visit to Food Gallery. One of the stalls there, Boon Sik Zip, offered a couple variations of kimbap. After some consultation with the experts(CT & Yvo), I decided to risk it at Food Gallery. Since one order of kimbap is not quite filling enough, I also decided [...]

Eddie’s Sweet Shop

Eddie’s Sweet Shop

As I mentioned in my Katsuno post, I knew I wasn’t going to starve by any means because we totally walked over to Eddie’s for ice cream.  I love Eddie’s – everything is made in-house, and the staff is hilarious.  That night, we were served by a young guy who was no more than 20, who flirted mildly with me and told me all about saving his cat from a racoon attack, though the conversation quickly ended when he asked, “Do you watch Jersey Shore?” and I had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing so hard I spit [...]
