We at the Feisty Foodie have seen and sampled a bit of the artisanal pizza happenings in the city recently. So when my Brooklynite married friends decided a night of pizza and drinking in Brooklyn was in order, who was I to turn it down? And why not hit the putative birthplace of the craze? Motorino, in Williamsburg, has a devoted following both in blogs and real life, though we still braved it, hoping for a short wait. Saturday at 6:30 is apparently only a reasonably crowded time, so a drink at the bar for the early birds was in [...]

Last Friday was quiet and rainy, which makes for perfect blog reading time. After going through my usual suspects, I came across a link to an article on DNAinfo.com about a new dollar burger joint near Penn Station. As I work very close, I figured this would be a great opportunity to check it out myself with camera phone in tow. The new place, Pop’s Dollar Food Shop, is a separate counter within the pizza & gyro place on Seventh Avenue across from Penn. I usually head in the other direction for lunch as most eateries around there are below [...]
Ridge Winery Tasting Night

Good friends are friends that host a little dinner party once in a while. Great friends used to work at a world-class winery and were gifted bottles of experimental wines that they held onto for years, waiting for the perfect opportunity to uncork and enjoy. So it was that two friends, about to give up on New York for a ’round-the-world adventure, had a few noted snobs and budding wine enthusiasts — and me — over for a night of indulging. E worked at Ridge Winery when she and S lived in the Bay area, and as a gift from [...]

Another Thursday has come and gone, which means another TV dinner! This was one of the simpler ones (from almost a month ago, actually), but it made me pretty happy that night. Pretty healthy, too. A quick tortellini soup I threw together, with store-bought three-cheese tortellini in a broth I made. I actually made the soup a few days before Thursday, and was eating my way through it slowly, so when Thursday came around, I took some soup and heated it up for my dinner. Honestly, that’s how I usually do it for my Thursday night ritual – heat up [...]
Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte

After wandering around the Coffee & Tea Festival for a while, BeerBoor mentioned to me that he had a Groupon for Le Relais de Venise and asked if I wanted to walk over for dinner. I agreed, so we took our time walking over and still managed to get there before it opened at 5:30pm. So this is what it’s like hanging out with old people: they eat dinner as soon as restaurants open to serve! The thing about Le Relais is that there isn’t much of a menu: for $24.95, you get salad, then steak & frites, served in [...]
