Limelight Marketplace: Grimaldi’s and More

Limelight Marketplace: Grimaldi’s and More

The Feisty Foodie Family was invited to attend a press preview of the church-turned-nightclub-turned-mini-mall, the Limelight, conveniently located in the heart of Manhattan’s big box stores along Sixth Avenue. The main attraction opens February 1, and naturally proved to be the big draw on this icy, bitterly-cold evening. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, a staple under the Brooklyn Bridge for, well, forever, is known for killer old-school, thin-crust pizza, and somehow they were convinced to bring that pizza to a more convenient location for Manhattanites, though I doubt the wait times will be any shorter. As they are not yet open, we were [...]

Whole Foods Soy Milk and Honey Crunch & Oats Cereal

Back in October, Whole Foods launched a new line of refrigerated soy milk (and almond milk, but I somehow grabbed two cartons of soy milk instead of one each; grr and oops).  I was sent a $10 gift card so I could sample the milk; I also picked up a box of cereal (conveniently located directly across the aisle from the soy milk refrigerator) to go with the two cartons.  The total came out to just under $10 – a carton of soy milk is only $2.99, way cheaper than what my neighborhood store charges for Silk! A few mornings, I started [...]

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock

My once-per-year wait for a Samuel Adams offering has finally ended. A recent visit to Costco yielded the Winter Classics Variety Pack, the annual case (and twelve-pack) offering from Boston Beer Co. that combines six Samuel Adams beers in one convenient package. Some of the beers only appear in this packaging, so it’s typically the only way to score some of the beers in the Sam lineup. I happen to enjoy most of the varieties on display, especially since the awful Cranberry Lambic was ejected. In its place various beers make an appearance, and this year, it’s the Chocolate Bock, [...]

Recipe Fridays: Reinventing the TV Dinner

Recipe Fridays: Reinventing the TV Dinner

I know I’ve mentioned my me-time and my TV nights on this blog before, but I’ve never really talked about what I eat on those nights.  Well, Thursday night is a big TV night for me, and I’ve recently taken to using these divided/sectioned melamine trays I bought at Target on super-clearance a few years ago to serve myself a TV dinner.  Reinvented.  Most everything on the tray is homemade, and it’s a very filling, nutritious meal – dessert included – that I can wrap myself in my Snuggie (Christmas gift and I love it!), put a couch pillow on [...]

Khao Tip

Khao Tip

Another night with the rents, means another dinner out. Dad suggested we go to a relatively new Thai place that was pretty close to their house. I was pretty shocked by this suggestion since my parents don’t like spicy food, let alone food with such aggressive flavors such as Thai. I was definitely intrigued on how the food would be since Wayne doesn’t have a huge Thai population, if any. Could it be as enjoyable as Kin Shop? We’ll see. Mom was in a soup mood so she started with some Chicken Soup with Clear Noodles. She liked it a [...]
