Thursdays with TT: Bar Breton

Thursdays with TT: Bar Breton

A couple weeks back, CT & I decided to meet up with our friend TX for a low-key bite at a local restaurant, Bar Breton. It has been open for a while, but we never have gotten the chance to go. The restaurant was also participating in Blackboard Eats, even though it was only 25% off instead of the traditional 30%, a discount is a discount. The restaurant focuses on food from Brittany, France especially galettes, which are savory buckwheat crepes. (apologies for the pictures, they are from my camera phone.) We started with two appetizers to share among the [...]

Samarkand

Samarkand

I live in a neighborhood that is heavily populated with Bukharian Jews.  I don’t really know what that means, except that sometimes, when I walk home from the bus stop or train station at night, my senses are often assaulted with the amazing scent of grilled meats.  I die a little inside every time, knowing how scared I am to wander into the place closest to my apartment, because whenever I walk by, the newspaper-lined windows blocking my view, and attempt to glance into the sometimes-open doorway… it seems more like a big gathering of family and friends than a [...]

Chocolate Cream Cheese Cupcakes

Because of my bento lunches with the Feisty Foodie, I’ve been inspired to find ways to make portable (and bento-able) desserts like my homemade pop tarts and Dutch apple crisp.  I really like cupcakes for this reason.   It’s not like I can’t just cut a piece of cake and put it into its own little container; I just really like cutting out that extra step by baking cupcakes instead. I was really craving dark chocolate cake and cheesecake.  At the same time.  So I did a little research and discovered a whole bunch of recipes.  The more I read, the [...]

Food Parc

Food Parc

My name is TT and I work in Herald Square aka one of the least exciting lunch neighborhoods in Manhattan, except for K-town. The food trucks tried out the neighborhood in the past, but quickly moved on to greener pastures. When I heard about a new food court opening up called Foodparc in the Eventi Hotel a couple blocks away from my office, I got pretty excited. When I heard it was being opened by Jeffrey Chodorow, I was worried that it would be another overpriced shitshow that is his speciality (Rocco’s, Kobe Club, etc.) Regardless, the previews on Eater [...]

Picnic Garden

Picnic Garden

I’ve mentioned in the past my woefully slim knowledge regarding Korean food, and Picnic Garden is part of the reason.  Korean BBQ tends to be prohibitively expensive, but Picnic Garden, one of the first places (if not THE first place) I ever had Korean BBQ, is all you can eat! and the prices are on par to what you’d pay for one portion at a regular Korean BBQ place in Koreatown.  Yes.  Seriously.  See the above?  Trays upon trays of marinated and non-marinated meats, pork belly, kalbi, chicken parts, heart, organs, pretty much if you can grill it, it’s there.  [...]
