Cheeburger Cheeburger

Cheeburger Cheeburger

Being pigs, directly after discovering Fanta Shokata, BlindBaker, BeerBoor, Nommables and I headed over to Cheeburger Cheeburger to fill our bellies.  I ordered a strawberry banana shake, full.  Yum!  I love that they give you the full thing, even though I can never finish it…  A basket of half/half – onion rings and fries – arrived quickly, along with a quad of dipping sauces that we all nommed on.  BeerBoor ordered a 20oz burger – the challenge burger – despite having eaten normally earlier.  I’m not entirely sure what Nommables ordered, but I got this awesome shot of him stuffing [...]

Tuesdays with TT: Jubilee

Tuesdays with TT: Jubilee

It has been a couple weeks since Aunt B welcome a new member into the family, so it was time my parents came into the city to meet her. Say Hello to Scout. What would a trip into the city for the parents without a meal? I decided we would go to one of Aunt B’s favorite restaurants, Jubilee. The reason why it is her favorite is that their speciality is mussels. She has been coming here for years and it is always consistently good. I took her a couple months back as a Christmas present and had a great [...]

Side Door @ Beacon 3: Cobb Salad

Side Door @ Beacon 3: Cobb Salad

I’ve become a quick fan, almost a regular, at The Side Door @ Beacon since they opened a few weeks ago as a relatively inexpensive lunch alternative to the “real” Beacon. Side Door started with an exemplary burger and the Mr. Pink’s Double Dog, and recently expanded to prepared salads. As usual, no real line at the Door, and though the skies threatened, it didn’t rain. To show that I take my job here at Feisty Foodie seriously, instead of choosing a meat-centric lunch as I’d normally do, I picked up the new Cobb Salad to see how well Beacon [...]

Maialino: Breakfast Prix Fixe

Maialino: Breakfast Prix Fixe

I’ve been dying to try Maialino since TT wrote about the maialino, but haven’t been able to find a time that works for everyone.  Fortunately, I read about this deal on Tasting Table, and who doesn’t have time for a nice lingering breakfast?  Well, I don’t have class on Fridays, so why wouldn’t I?  I snagged a friend who apparently doesn’t care about getting to work on time (and who also generously allows me to take a bite of whatever’s ordered, or outright lets me trade if I don’t like what I’ve ordered), and away we went.  The Tasting Table [...]

Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale

Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale

One of my first beer-related revelations about the Midwest was Bell’s, formerly Kalamazoo Brewing, named for the owner/brewer Larry Bell and of course the town of Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the brewery was located, and where the cafe and store now serve up lots of beer to the public. While I figured the German influence in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan would mean lots of good wheat beers, Vienna lagers and Oktoberfests, little was I prepared for a predominantly ale-brewing force on my first real visit to the area. About eight years ago I flew to Chicago for, yes, a beer [...]
