The way a crow
shook down on me
the dust of snow
from a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
a change of mood
and saved some part
of a day I had rued.
-Robert Frost, Dust of Snow
The prediction of snow was insane; schools were closed pre-emptively and businesses shut down in anticipation of a huge snowstorm. Yes, it snowed. A lot. All day. But it really didn’t seem that bad; it wasn’t even that cold out! The above was taken on my way home from a lovely night with friends. And a funny thing happened on the way to this night out:
As I sat on the train, musing to myself that I must be insane for trekking out of my home in the snow to have drinks with a few friends, I saw the above poem on the “Train of Thought” poster directly across from where I sat. Cute, I thought.
Then, while walking to the bar, I was passing under an awning that suddenly decided to dump its entire load of snow… on my head. Seriously. I had to start laughing, not just because of the poem, but because what else can you do but laugh? A passing SUV had already thrown a pile of dirty slush on my shins, it was snowing furiously and I was soaked from head to toe.
But I had a great night, and nothing can take that away from me, even lots of dirty snow splashing on me or falling on me from awnings.
Bliss.

Glad we could all hang out and relax together tonight! I think I could get used to such enjoyable evenings.

Great seeing everyone. Despite the snow, it was well-worth the journey.
