SF Foodbuzz Food Bloggers Fest – Welcome Reception & Taste of SF Street Food Fare

This post is woefully out of order in terms of pictures, but I’m trying to pretend like I ate a normal amount in a normally-paced sort-of meal that first night at Foodbuzz Fest, even though I totally didn’t… the first night of the fest was reserved for the welcome reception, where most people mingled and met many new faces, and the Taste of SF Street Food Fare.
(Please note: I did not mingle and meet new faces. Instead, I saw some NY food bloggers and basically hung out with them the entire weekend, meeting only a few new people, really. I’m not ashamed to admit there was total high school grouping off going on during the fest; I’m serious when I say the entire weekend felt like summer camp for food bloggers, especially the bus incident; although I didn’t actually ever go to summer camp, this was what I imagine it would have been like. There was totally some snobbery going on around the fest; eh, that’s what happens when you stick a bunch of people together.

One of the first things (no, really, this was the first thing I ate after my ice cream at Humphry Slocombe) I managed to eat was chichharones from 4505 Meats. Sorry… these are just pork rinds like I get in a bag for 99c. I wasn’t too impressed at all. Meh.
Hog Island Oyster Co. was on hand shucking Kumamoto oysters. Fresh and briny… I personally don’t like the small Kumamotos and am actually a huge fan of East Coast oysters. But the girls I was with totally loved these, so they must’ve been good
I think this was from Spencer on the Go… two types of salad. I had the beet salad and loved it – thank goodness for fresh/whole veggies! – very tasty and the cheese didn’t overwhelm the beets at all (a problem I find occasionally with beet salads). Yum!
Pizza Politana – you bring some NYers in and you put SF pizza in front of us, well.
I will say this: it smelled fantastic. It tasted great. But pizza it was not. Don’t ask me why… fine. It’s because the crust was way too thin; while it was crisp, crackly and good, I just can’t call it pizza (just like I can’t call some sandwiches ‘banh mi’ – just because you stick pickled daikon and carrot on any old bread does not make it a banh mi!). I ate my piece happily, I just wouldn’t call it pizza.

Carnitas taco. It lives up to the name – totally tacolicious! I inhaled mine quickly… I wish we had Tacolicious in NYC!
Okay, okay, don’t get too excited now, because I’m totally getting excited just looking at that picture of the offerings from the Roli Roti truck. Oh my gosh.
Porchetta sandwich. OMG. I got there just a split second too late to get the potatoes that roast underneath the spinning porchetta, being bathed in the fat dripping from the pork loin 
but omg omg omg. The crackly skin that they put into your sandwich (now THAT’S some chicharrones!), the succulent, delicious and flavorful meat… the onion marmalade… amazing and perfect bread for this sandwich… omg. I just made myself very, very sad that I won’t be back for a while… (and just checked their schedule/whereabouts because the BF will be in SF next month and I WANT A DAMN SANDWICH… hahaha *shakes head at self* like he’s going to agree to go pick one up and then bring it back on the airplane for me… maybe if I was pregnant… hmmm! hahahahahahahaha). Seriously – spoiler alert – best bite all weekend. Hands down. This was it. And I stupidly only ate half (well, I was trying to be good, so I split this with the lovely Miss Ginsu).
Dessert came in the form of ice cream from Straus Family Creamery.

Last but not least, Mission Minis! Mini cupcakes. Cute and tasty. What more could a gal ask for?
If you’re in the Bay Area, please do yourself a huge favor and go get a porchetta sandwich from the Roli Roti truck. *drool* Excuse me while I go try to find something similar in NYC…

Looks great. As a heads up since you mentioned two things that are available not too far. If you go up to Corona to Tortilleria Nixtamal on the weekends they make an excellent carnitas taco. In general, they make some great food, and are really worth a visit.
And for a really good Porchetta sandwich, I’d recommend the aptly named Porchetta over in the east village. I wouldn’t get any sides, just the sandwich. It was really really good last time I had it.
