StB, the lost Bear (ok, she’s not lost, I know where she moved to, it’s just far enough that I only see her once every few months instead of once or twice a month now), returned home for a weekend and made a point to have dinner with the former FC… which I forced myself to go to because I wanted to see her, even though I had an exam the next morning at 9am. (And it was a good thing I did; I received a 104 on the exam. I didn’t even realize you could get over 100 on [...]

I first posted about Li Hua over 2 years ago; it’s now known as Jup She. Though the workers appear to be younger, considering the decor and the way it’s mentioned that it was fka (formerly known as) Li Hua, I’m pretty sure that it’s basically the same owners. In any case, a few different people came to me for downtown lunch recommendations recently, so after some thought, skipping over all the very usual places people will suggest, I landed on Li Hua. I realized it’d been a long time since I went – since before the name change – [...]

I recently attended the Chocolate Show, and was happy to see not only that Roni Sue had a booth, but they were selling packets of their Pig Candy. A year or two ago, the entire food-blog-world lit up with talk of this – chocolate covered bacon! – but it was really hard for me to get over to Essex Market, where their shop is, before they closed on weekdays, so I never managed to go. But here it was! Ready for my $5! Unfortunately, she only had mixed bags (milk & dark chocolates), as opposed to just dark, but that’s [...]

This year, I got it in my head that I wanted to go to Blue Hill at Stone Barns. When I get things in my head like that, they don’t usually go away. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize just how impossible it is to get a reservation there. I tried for lunch. I tried for dinner. I tried for everything, and still, no luck. They take reservations up to two months in advance and I was never lucky enough to manage to get a reservation, not even one that I couldn’t use. I thought it was hopeless, despite my [...]
Recipe Fridays: Raw Tomato Sauce

I’ve mentioned that I’m completely blessed and have an awesome life (not braggin’! just sayin’!) – this is just yet another example. I’ve been in the market for a food processor for a while now; my mother and sister have tried to buy me a combination food processor/blender for a while as well. (Because I live in an apartment and have extremely limited space, it seemed like the obvious solution to get one that shared a base.) Unfortunately, reviews of combo machines were not favorable, and I hesitated to buy (or have my sister/mother buy) something that didn’t sound amazing. [...]
