Post-burgers at SoHo Park, HB and I decided we wanted something sweet and cold to cool us off. Actually, maybe it was just me. In any case, we walked over to Sundaes & Cones for ice cream. I got lychee on a sugar cone, and she got green tea on a wafer cone. Lychee was delightfully studded with bits of real lychee. My only problem with that was after a while, the bits – including the inside part of lychees – became a lil tough to chew. So maybe it wasn’t a good idea to have lychee strewn throughout? I don’t know. I liked it, right down to the part where I tried to stuff the whole thing in my mouth and it exploded all over my hand. HB thought that was funny 😛
Oh, she liked hers too. We’ve been here before, and we’ll be back, it’s conveniently located (I wanted L’Arte del Gelato, but that’s West Village and we were in the East Village already) and priced about the same as other nearby ice cream shoppes.
Yvo says: I’m pretty sure this shop is Asian-owned based on the Asian-influenced flavors (lychee, green tea, red bean) and the Asian employees. It’s like having Chinatown Ice Cream Factory… in the East Village. Considering its proximity to NYU (and Cooper Union), obviously this type of ice cream would do well. They also do cakes, sorbets, fat free flavors (but, uh, why?), all sorts of yumminess, though I usually see people just getting ice cream. Oh, there’s also a drink case to one side that has Ito En teas, though I don’t know the prices, that’s a nice touch in case you just want something to drink while your friends get ice cream.

that's a pretty nice portion. The green tea color looks a little 'fake' though. Wish it has a deeper tone.

Actually the green tea looks spot on… there's a difference in coloration between if it's made with matcha (which I assume this is) or with green tea extract (where you'd find a more vibrant green or in some cases yellow). Did it taste as good as Chinatown Icecream Factory?
