The last time I was at my mother’s house, she told me I should take some of this stuff the bro had bought and stocked her freezer with – this stuff, actually. Well, after reading that overwhelmingly positive review, I was even more keen to try this stuff. It’s not like I’ll ever make my own (some people do! and I applaud them for it, but this isn’t how I roll). Pretty simple; out of the package, you simply steam it for 20 minutes, according to the package instructions (which are in English… because I can’t read anything besides English). [...]

Post-movie date, having secured a great parking spot, BF and I wandered around the Forest Hills area looking to grab some grub. I really wanted to try this place his good friend had highly recommended, but I guess lots of people know about the place as it was PACKED and the wait was 40-50 minutes. It was raining pretty hard at this point so we opted to keep walking instead… and finally ended up at Cabana. I’ve been here so many times in the past 10 years I honestly can’t say if I’d ever been with him, but whatever, I [...]

I routinely receive emails requesting that I come to such and such restaurant for a tasting, but I usually do not accept… because a lot of times they are irrelevant to this blog (really far from the beaten path/hard to get to; too expensive for me to recommend even if it is amazing; or just plain looking for me to rave about their place without really believing in their product – yes, this happens, after I respond that if I go, I reserve the right to not post if I don’t want to, and if I do post, I will [...]

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Essentially, one purchases a ‘share’ in a local farm – much like the stock market, one then has a vested interest in seeing the farm succeed. Dividends/pay outs come in the form of produce – vegetables and sometimes fruit. Different farms do things differently; my farm happens to be also organic, and I pick up my box each week – Tuesdays for me – from a local location. Join me on this journey – my inaugural season with a CSA – as I explore the various vegetables I receive and what I can do with [...]
The Fun Flushing Run

The thing about reading and keeping up with lots of food blogs is that you read about all this incredible food that you don’t always necessarily get to go eat. You can go the high end, expensive route, but my job doesn’t quite allow my wallet down that road just yet. You can go the cheap eats route, but I would get so fat so fast, well, I don’t want that (not until after I get married *wink* is what I tell the BF all the time!). So I try very hard to encompass the mid-level – I’m a “normal” [...]
