As I mentioned in my last post, it was Asian BBQ & Booze on a Stick night. Well, Asian BBQ out of the way, we headed over to Counter to check out this ‘booze on a stick’ that SpB told us she read about somewhere… Each order was $6 and included 3 mini popsicles – like the size if you’d used one of those tiny Dixie cups and frozen them in there. Not bad, to be honest, though my friends reminded me that it wasn’t like we got a lot of alcohol… but hell, I’m not going to complain about [...]

Yet another theme night brought to you by SpB! Tonight’s theme was “Asian BBQ & Booze on a Stick” which piqued the curiosity of many Facebook friends when my status read “can’t wait for Asian BBQ & Booze on a Stick tonight!” Well, here it is, Asian BBQ first: Yakiniku West. Funny enough, I posted about Yakiniku Juju and ended that review with “I will be going to Yakiniku West within a few weeks to compare and weigh in.” That post is dated almost exactly 3 years ago to the day! and I only now went to Yakiniku West. Whoops! I [...]

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Essentially, one purchases a ‘share’ in a local farm – much like the stock market, one then has a vested interest in seeing the farm succeed. Dividends/pay outs come in the form of produce – vegetables and sometimes fruit. Different farms do things differently; my farm happens to be also organic, and I pick up my box each week – Tuesdays for me – from a local location. Join me on this journey – my inaugural season with a CSA – as I explore the various vegetables I receive and what I can do with [...]

A very long time ago, I actually wrote the first Midtown Lunch does Downtown Lunch installment about this place – Mobile Fried Chicken. It was good, but not the greatest, and recently everyone kept talking about fried chicken around me and I just wanted it but didn’t want to walk to Popeye’s (which has, in my opinion, the best fast food chain fried chicken that is available to me in NYC, it doesn’t hurt that I like their sides quite a bit too) on Fulton Street. So I went to Mobile Fried Chicken and ordered 3 wings w/fries. It also came [...]

I was recently invited to a gourmet chocolate tasting by Bissinger’s. I was incredibly disapointed to not be able to attend, so I asked my fellow HS alum & friend, Gary Wong, to cover the event for me instead. Below are his thoughts and wonderful photos! Bissinger’s, a gourmet chocolate company, recently held a tasting event in midtown Manhattan to promote their entry in the New York City market. Bissinger’s hails from Saint Louis (yes, they made it very clear that it was Saint Louis, not St. Louis, if that makes any sense) and have been around since 1927. Now available in Food [...]
