Breakfast/Lunch Cart

One afternoon, I lost my head and decided to go to the banh mi cart at 1:15.  I was working my way through the entire menu (new post to come) and completely forgot about the madness of the lines.  Ah well.  In any case, this led me to cross the street, hesitate for a moment, and hit up the cart that’s across the street from 10 Hanover Square (where the banh mi cart is now located).  This cart boasts breakfast AND lunch, and I always see people lining up for breakfast, so why not lunch? Some people have mentioned that [...]

Veronica’s Kitchen

After reading about this place on Downtown Lunch, I decided to check out Veronica’s Kitchen myself.  I walk by all the time but never noticed it before… I must be oblivious. As I was perusing the menu, I realized I’d never had Jamaican or Caribbean food before, and have no point of comparison.  Well, if it tastes good, it tastes good, in my mind anyway.  I quickly decided on the bbq beef ribs, but when it got to my turn, I was informed that it wasn’t Friday, so I couldn’t have them.  Oops.  Remembering a long ago time when I [...]

Cracker Barrel (one more time)

Of course, on our way back from Pittsburgh, we had to stop by our all-time favorite road trip restauraunt – Cracker Barrel.  I opted for an Orange’n’Cream this time, instead of my usual root beer, seeking the usual frosted mug but this time, with a drink that replicates the taste of a melting orange creamsicle.  Mmmmm, delicious.  We both decided to get the Sunday special of fried chicken, and found it pretty darn tasty.  However, sadly/strangely, this was the furthest south Cracker Barrel we’d ever been to and it was the worst service I’ve ever gotten from a Cracker Barrel.  [...]

PNC Park (Pittsburgh)

The big reveal… the most solid reason I can offer people who ask why we went to Pittsburgh!  (Even though that’s backwards logic, because Pittsburgh was chosen first, then I said, “Oh my god! We can watch a baseball game while we’re there!” as it is a goal of mine to visit all MLB baseball stadiums at least once in my lifetime and eat the food available at each one…)  We went to a Pirates game!  Scheduling being what it is, we didn’t care who they’d be playing against, although it happened to be the Cincinnati Reds, whom I believe [...]

The Parador Inn (Pittsburgh)

When BF and I settled on Pittsburgh, we also discussed bringing my dog with us.  After that was settled, I set out to find a dog-friendly B&B (BF and I try to stay at bed & breakfasts, small/owner operated, help out small business and they’re usually a lot more fun, if more expensive).  A quick Google search turned up a few that looked interesting, but putting in our dates knocked out a few… then I came across The Parador Inn.  Though the site said nothing about being pet-friendly, I’d found it by searching ‘pet friendly bed breakfast Pittsburgh’ so I quickly [...]
