Since I first went to Nick’s back in April, I’ve wanted to bring my BF, the pizza snob (sort of: he’s very picky about pizza, but it’s not about price or ingredients being high-end… in fact it’s the opposite), to have him weigh in on the place. He was fond of Adrienne’s when we lived nearby, though it still wasn’t his favorite place overall by a long shot. He still considered Adrienne’s to be a little frou-frou, you see. So when a few weeks ago, he decided to join me on my little Sunday walk through Forest Hills, I knew immediately where I wanted to go for a quick bite. When he was done at the comic book store, and I was done at the Japanese grocery, we headed to the empty Nick’s. (Empty because it was an odd hour – way too late for lunch and still too early for dinner.)
BF is a huge fan of plain pies, so I ordered sausage on my half of a large pie. BTW – in my last post about Nick’s, I’d wondered about a few things. I wondered if I was in their delivery area (no, because they don’t deliver), and how their pizza would stand up to delivery (n/a because they don’t deliver, haha). There you go. Also last time, I’d noticed that my pizza was a little soggy around the tip, but this time, I hadn’t that issue. Perhaps last time the veggies had given off a lot of water, and that’s why the pizza was soggy? Hmm.
This time, I noticed the toppings – especially the cheese – was a bit uneven… but the pizza itself was very flavorful. The sauce a little sweet, and the pizza itself just very good. BF agreed that it was tasty, though it was still not “pizza by the slice” and it was still frou-frou, with its use of fresh mozzarella. We’ll be back, but on his part, probably a bit grudgingly. Our two root beers plus this large pie came to a little over $20 including a nice tip, which isn’t as cheap as pizza generally might imply. (We didn’t finish the entire pie; a few slices were taken home for me to nosh on for breakfast, hehe.)
Obligatory pizza upskirt shot. Nice crust, nice char. Mmm…
Yvo says: Still tasty. Still worth the walk to grab a pie. I’ll be back to try more combinations and maybe give a salad a try, haha. Maybe 😉

Other than my needing much more cheese on that pizza, it’s looking totally tasty. I’m sooo jealous.

I have to make my way to Nick’s one day.. maybe you can take me if the BF won’t go! hahaha.. my BF is very particular with pizza too since he supposedly grew up in the land of amazing pizza (aka brooklyn but whatever). I’ve yet to convince him that Queens has some great pizza places too.
