I recently discovered, much to the dismay of both my waistline (ack!) and my wallet (though, admittedly, their prices aren’t too scary), that Treats Truck parks in the Financial District on Mondays!!!
I’ve heard a lot about the Treats Truck, of course, and have read about their goodies extensively on Blondie & Brownie (full name: Blondie & Brownie Take on the Treats Truck: One Treat at a Time), wishing the Treats Truck would come to my lonely south-south-south tip of Manhattan office location. And… they heard my pleas and have!
A few Mondays ago now, I had some errands to run and went to take care of them. On my way back to the office, I noticed the Treats Truck parked and snapped the above photo, mouth agape. I peered at their goodies proffered and immediately fell in love. Kim, the woman working the truck (whose name I only know from reading Blondie & Brownie, haha, am I a creepy stalker?), was so pleasant and helpful, I had to get something.
So I did.
At $1 a cookie, not a bad snack price at all. The cookie was chewy – just the way I like it – but not overwhelmingly chocolatey, dense and perfect. I had to run and get a cup of whole milk – did I mention I hate drinking milk? – it was perfect.
So perfect, in fact, that the following Monday, I hastily looked up where the truck would be, and it was BACK IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!! Even better — it was literally across the street from my office. Uhh, hi, I’m there? (I should point out here that it was FREEZING that day, and on normal days, I don’t have to leave my office building – there’s a cafeteria, and I usually bring my lunch – so for me to bundle up and trudge outside to get treats, well, it’s a testament to how much I liked my cookie.)
Now, I’m normally a straight-brownie kind of gal. I’d gone to the truck in search of the double chocolate trucker that Blondie posted about that morning. (Actually, it was the main reason I went out that afternoon. A trucker? What is that?! Double chocolate? HELLOOO?) But when I saw that there were no double chocolate truckers in sight, and Kim reached out of the truck to offer all the people gawking at her treats a taste of some chopped up treat,… I tried what was offered, and it was chewy, dense, slightly buttery and nutty and just ohyummz, I decided on the spot to get that.
Even when I found out that it was called a pecan butterscotch bar, because “because I’m not a butterscotch person” is not a good excuse. I’d just eaten it, and I’d liked it, obviously, I may not be a butterscotch person, but I’m a Kim’s Treats Truck pecan butterscotch bar person apparently. Open your mind!!!
I especially liked that, before grabbing one for me, Kim asked me if I had a preference for location – middle, side, corner? Uhhh… yeah, corner, give me all the extra crispy chewiness I can take!!! She didn’t have one at the ready, but before I could say “Don’t worry about it, a side will do fine then,” she whirled around and produced a fresh tray, where she cut me the above corner for my consuming pleasure.
And consume it with pleasure I did, while watching HIMYM that night. *swoon* I don’t think it can get better than that. Except if they were magical, no-calorie treats?
But I went back again. If her butterscotch brownie was that transcendental, I had to try the regular brownie. Oh wait, that’s a picture of what I think is a trucker: a basic Oreo. But.
But.
BUT.
BETTER.
Remember my sad experience with the TKO? The Thomas Keller Oreo *sneer optional*? How, when you increase the size of the cookie, you shouldn’t proportionally increase the thickness of the cream? Well, you can see above, the cream isn’t thicker. It’s the same. And this was the Oreo of my dreams, if I dreamed about Oreos (I dream more about ummm whoopie pies and calorie-but-not-taste-free food). This was it.
The cookie part was soft, chewy (do you notice I like chewy desserts?), while the cream was super soft, melting away gently in my mouth as I bit into the cookie. Slightly sweet, but not overwhelmingly so- just right, almost making it the cookie’s own milk so that I might not need to get up and get a glass. It was, simply put, absolute perfection in this cookie. Holy wow.
I’d originally also purchased a straight-brownie for my boyfriend to sample (again, the corner piece! I need one of those brownie pans that’s all corners!), but a change of plans had me alone with a large glass of milk and this lovely corner brownie piece tha night…
And this was my first disappointment with Treats Truck.
I won’t say it was bad; it wasn’t, at all, just not as moist or chewy as the pecan butterscotch bar had been. I had very high hopes, though, coming from all the other great treats I’d tried from them.
Overall, I will definitely be back every chance I get to sample more stuff from Treats Truck. I can see now why Blondie & Brownie are so into Kim and her goodies…
Yvo says: Hell yeah, go here and try some treats, you won’t be sorry you did. Soon enough, like me, you’ll have a punched up card for a free treat (10 purchases gets you a free treat!)
highly recommended – affordable treats to brighten up any workday

Although this hungry bitch (me) religiously avoids junk food, I’ve been known to crave scooby snacks after indulging in a spliff of “Vancouver’s finest”. Does the treat truck deliver? ;o)
Blondie says
Haha! You love the blondie, but not the brownie.
