Frito Pie or Chilitos

Well, you tell me.  What would you make when you’re faced with a small amount of leftover chili?  I’ll tell you what: Frito Pie.  Or, well, Chilitos (which to me, has a definite Latino flair to the word: it’s chiLEEtos – neck cranking optional).  Whatever you want to call it – and again, please don’t come screaming to me that this is not Frito Pie, or Chilitos, I really could care less about the “authenticity” in this case, because it’s just simply delicious, and that’s what I care about here   Regular Fritos on the bottom – I generally like [...]

Return to Sapporo

I’ve eaten at Sapporo twice before, but I’ve been hearing some reports that the quality has gone down… so I took a new photo.  This is the shio ramen, which I found a little too salty, but still very satisfying and tasty on a cold Saturday night after shopping all around midtown.  And with a total bill of $11 including tip and one gyoza order split amongst 6 people… a very delicious and cheap meal. recommended Share and Enjoy:

Another Birthday Bunch brunch… another for HB.  ANM said “We’re getting old; that’s why we do brunch now…”  I can’t agree more… hahaha. I’d made a reservation for about 10 people, 11:30 am, but of course, also per usual, we had our latecomers.  Starving by the time everyone was assembled, we quickly ordered and received our food fairly quickly – the restaurant had been empty when we arrived, but began to fill up around noon (Saturday brunch is like an insider’s secret to getting a table for brunch…). HB & her boyfriend both ordered what I believe was called the [...]

La Nacional, Revisited

For a veryvery belated birthday dinner, I decided to take LTS to the very same place I’d taken StB for her birthday lunch.  LTS and I share a love of good paella, so it seemed fitting; when I read, just the day before we were set to go, that La Nacional was having money problems and might be closing down, I was even more eager to spend some money there.  We started with the seafood salad. While the seafood was very fresh tasting, and I loved the abundance of octopus, LTS and I agreed that the dish was less oomph [...]
