After dim sum at Ocean Jewel, we all trooped across the street to Flushing Mall to check out its fabled food court. Apparently, all four of us frequent the same food sites, as we all remembered recent posts from Serious Eats – specifically, this post detailing a shaved ice topped with mango ice cream… We had a little trouble with the menu – I couldn’t believe it would only be $3 and change – but whipping out my trusty Blackberry, a quick Google search later, and we were golden.
The money shot… yes, please, more mango… more ice cream… heck, more of everything!
Brownie was kind enough to share with the rest of us freeloaders. We quickly dug in and I was skeptical that mango ice cream with shaved ice could be tasty, but was I wrong! I’d read somewhere that they use really ripe mango – this wasn’t the case here, but it was still very, very tasty: a little bit of ice cream, a little bit of ice drenched in syrup, and a bite of mango, holy cow yummy. (BTW, yes, in order to try some, I got over the idea of sharing stuff with virtual strangers- nothing against the people I was with, I just have this squeamish fear of dipping into people’s food/people dipping into mine.) That was GOOD. Thank goodness I don’t live closer to Flushing, I’d be there every weekend to have this after every meal!
After we dogged all of that, we walked off towards the exit, but I couldn’t help myself.
I was mesmerized by the machines, which pour batter into the little molds, then plunge into the center of the batter to squirt custard inside while they cook.
A bit annoying that you can’t buy just one to try, you have to buy I think 8 for $3 and change. I took the plunge anyway because they looked so darn tasty.
So cute!
And inside each one, a squiggle of yummy cream! Delicious. I gladly scarfed down a whole bunch while still warm (careful, the cream could be still hot, don’t want to burn yourself), and insisted Danny & Brownie eat a couple each (quickest way to cut calories: share your food with other people).
Mmm, I recommend both places for a snack or dessert 😉

I was just there this past weekend! The Delimanjoos are 12 for $3.25.
Had I known about the shaved ice with mango ice cream, I would have gone to the basement! Looks like I’ll have to go back. =)

unfortunately this is the only decent place for shaved ice. there used to be a much better place years ago, but it went out of business. still not the best though, but decent.
how often do you visit flushing mall? lol. the delimanjoo place has been there for about 2 years already! =P
Yvo says
@John – I didn’t say it was new! =P And I never go to Flushing.
