I’ve written about Financier Patisserie for lunch in the past, finding it palatable and pleasant though not a must-eat. I haven’t actually been back for lunch, mostly because I prefer bringing my lunch as often as possible, but I found myself on cake-duty last week and so I returned to the glorious glass case at Financier that houses an assortment of gorgeous cakes.
My darling coworker – one of the most genuinely sweet women you’ll ever meet, slightly off the path but in that lovable way that endears her to you – recently turned “I really don’t know how old she is” and of course, the girls in my group had to get together and throw her a little party. I was put in charge of procuring a cake (yes, that’s what cake-duty is, who knew?). Immediately, my thoughts turned to Financier.
Well, this is what I got.
Chocolate flourless cake with a raspberry jam overlay (hidden underneath the chocolate petals).
Judging by my coworker’s raves, it was a wise choice. The dense, moist, almost mousse-like texture of the cake against the smoothly sweet, slightly sticky quality of the raspberry jam was perfect for a late afternoon snack. Everyone came to tell me how good a job I did picking the cake (!) and I kind of felt proud that I’d blindly picked the one I thought looked good in the case, without ever having tasted the cake.
The 7″ size was $20, and was well sized for a small office birthday gathering (we generally only allot for our immediate group, 6 grown women).
Yvo says: It was tasty enough that I’d definitely get the next birthday cake from here, if I were on cake-duty again (I won’t be; my birthday is the next one coming). The fudginess is something you have to like though, some people don’t like flourless chocolate cake for this very reason.

Your writing in this post made me smile. I love the way your words translate across screen so well – it’s like I can picture you actually speaking them.
