I’m still keeping actual politics off the blog.  This is a food blog, not a political blog! but I thought this was too cute to not post.  And come on… who doesn’t love black & white cookies?!  I am definitely going to go over and buy some with my candidate’s face on it — ZARO’S BREAD BASKET TO OBAMA/BIDEN AND MCCAIN/PALIN BITE ME!!! Black and White Cookies with Faces of Candidates on Sale at Zaro’s in Grand Central Terminal Zaro’s Bread Basket in Grand Central Terminal has put some “sweet” into the very contentious 2008 race to the White House. On [...]

Shea Goodbye

I flew in from Napa Valley on Saturday; when we booked the tickets, I insisted on being back in time for this.  The final game at Shea.  What should have been the final regular season game at Shea, with a few postseason games tucked under our belts, some great memories more to come, and … well.  I could whine and complain and cry in frustration.  Which most Mets fans are doing right now.  But you’re here for the food, right?  Too bad.  There’s only a little bit of food in here.  This is my farewell to Shea.  (Posts about San [...]

Cheese of the World, Forest Hills

So technically I should be back from San Francisco, but you know, I doubt my mind is working properly to form a full post.  I’m pretty sure that my mind is still somewhere in Napa, wandering the vineyards, sniffing deeply in wine glasses and spitting into buckets (ok, who’m I kidding?  I’m drinking that sucka dry), relaxing, maybe still in a spa somewhere getting a massage…)  (Ironically, I am writing this before I even leave, so I am totally drooling and hating myself already, champing at the bit to leave; I bet those of you who didn’t go on my [...]

Recipe Fridays: Miso Pork Chops

Hi guys!  I’ll be back tomorrow (Saturday) but still have some posts scheduled for Monday in case I don’t recover in time.  Hopefully you haven’t missed me too much.  Hopefully you understand that despite being swamped at work and wanting nothing more when I got home than to just curl into a fetal position and sleep peacefully, last week, before I left on vacation, I busted my butt to set up these scheduled posts.  Hopefully In any case, I’ve hesitated to post this recipe because, well, let’s face it.  I don’t have any good pictures of the dish.  But it [...]

My Thai, Elmhurst, Queens

September 25, 2008 by

I could show you pictures of this restaurant.  Tell you how my mother, my brother and I went to have dinner for Autumn Moon Festival but our nearby favorite Cantonese restaurant was packed to the gills, so we wound up here. Show you pictures of the various dishes we ordered – the fried shrimp appetizer with the sweet chili dipping sauce that was alright. The crab cakes surrounded by tofu skin that were interesting and unique, but at the end of the day, not my cup of tea. Talk about the squid salad that looked spicy but was more vinegary than [...]
