Martha’s Country Kitchen

I’ve never claimed to be a cupcake fanatic.  In fact, searching on my blog, I’ve discovered that I’ve only mentioned cupcakes a handful of times, and mostly none are worth linking to here… (though Cakeman Raven does have the best red velvet cupcakes everrr and recently I discovered a place near work that has friggin fantastic red velvet cake slices, about a week after I tried them, TONY came out with their food issue and declared them best red velvet cake in the city, okay thanks TONY for agreeing with me!)  Anyway, I’m not that big on sweets, I hate [...]

KITCHEN SAFETY (and a recipe, sort of)

Pasta is becoming a weekend habit… Not really a bad thing; I avoid carbs much of the work-week so it’s nice to ease up on weekends, right?  Well, BF came over to play Tribal Wars and watch TV with me, (yes, we really are that nerdy!) so I handed him a cookbook and asked him to pick a recipe.  After a few minutes of him browsing, he handed it back and said, “I don’t know, you pick, I don’t feel like looking through this!” and so I decided to go to my new standby. Last week’s pasta!  Except I had [...]

Nick’s Pizza

I am a huge fan of Adrienne’s.  Though I’ve “only” posted on it twice, I go there frequently with my coworkers for a quick lunch; I’ve gone there for dinners; I’ve actually even once gone by myself for a solo dinner that turned out to be oh-so-delicious… I love this place.  I don’t even like pizza that much, but this place just does it right. Since I first began going to Adrienne’s, I’ve known that the person who opened it actually first opened a place in Forest Hills, Queens.  I grew up in Forest Hills, but I’d never been to this [...]

Skylight Diner

As I may have mentioned somewhere, I was down for the count last week with gastroenteritis (a fancy way of saying basically, I had the stomach flu/food poisoning/my tummy hurted).  Boo.  Double boo was the fact that for months now, BF and I have had weekend passes to the New York Comicon, and damned if I was going to let my tickets go to waste!  (Again, I have never hidden my ultra dorkiness from anyone; in fact I embrace it!)  Though we did wind up skipping Friday night (which, looking back, was kind of silly), we did attend both Saturday [...]

Minni’s Shabu Shabu

While it’s true I’ve been here quite a number of times, and have taken pictures (yes, my brother’s food blog, though I used his camera and took many of those pictures- that appears to be before or around the time I was discovering flash is no good)… I’ve never formally reviewed this place.  It’s the first place I ever had shabu shabu outside of my home!  Anyway, this isn’t really a review so much as a run down of what’s what. In cold weather, as I always mention when I talk about shabu shabu, I love shabu shabu.  I love it [...]
