Argentina: Day 4, 5 & 6: Breakfast at the RioTropic

Our super quaint “hotel” in Iguazu Falls also included breakfast. Before I get into the actual items, the place was tiny – 10 rooms (I’d show you pictures, but those were on my friends’ cameras), but incredibly cheap. Our room allowed for probably 4 kids and 2 parents – we had only 4 girls – and it came out to $60 a night. No, not per person, total. There was a small pool with a few lounge chairs scattered about; necessary in the heat and humidity, we used it a few times actually, despite not being lounge type people (mostly [...]

Argentina: Day 3: Moonlit Dinner at the Falls (La Selva)

As soon as we landed in Iguazu Falls, we discovered that we’d picked a fantastic time to visit.  Once a month, during the week of the full moon, the park that houses the falls offers moonlit walks to the falls; for an extra few pesos, dinner is included.  I believe the total cost came out to $30 USD or thereabouts (around 90 pesos), and it sounded simply amazing- you get to the park after it’s closed, and are led on a 1.6 km “hike” to the Devil’s Throat, which is the largest falls that are part of Iguazu Falls.  I [...]

Argentina: Day 3: Lunch at the Domestic Airport

If you look closely at the above picture, you’ll see my two friends’ forks as they stab their way into the picture, thinking it will upset me.  I only ask people not to start eating before I take a picture if the food is presented nicely!  I don’t care if it’s fast food!  Sheesh, hmph!  It makes the picture more interesting with people in it if the food is rather bland to look at, anyway.  Hah! In any case, on day 3, we had breakfast at the hotel, walked around and shopped some before heading to the domestic airport for [...]

Argentina: Day 2: Authentic Dinner at Club Eros

The thing about adventure is that sometimes you have to seek it, sometimes it seeks you.  Sometimes it’s dangerous, and sometimes it’s not; sometime it’s totally worth the risk and other times… well, you get the picture. But it is always a good story later.  StB will attest to this. On our second night in Buenos Aires, we were debating between two restaurants somewhat close to each other.  One was a safe choice, not steak, something bland and uninteresting that I genuinely cannot recall right now.  The other was steak, according to the guidebook, it would only be 6 pesos, [...]

Argentina: Day 2: Dessert at Freddo

After hours of shopping, we girls wanted a little something sweet.  HB’s coworker had just visited Buenos Aires about a month ago, and had insisted we go to Freddo, a chain helado (sounds like gelato, but is actually Spanish for ice cream) shop.  He strongly recommended dulce de leche and we all got variations on this (mine, above, is straight dulce de leche; two of the girls got dulce de leche con chocolat which had huge chocolate chips as well, and one girl got something I forgot).  The funniest part was that looking at the price list, which was different [...]
