I had tickets to the morning taping of the Martha Stewart show yesterday.
I doubt any of my readers watch her show – especially since all of us have jobs and it airs at 1 pm – but anyway, her guest yesterday was Mario Batali. What an asshole! He used all these Italian words and they exchanged a few snarky moments here and there, which delighted me. We didn’t get to try what he made, either. Boo.
But we did get goodie bags! of various items mentioned on the show. This item, this book (he was a guest on the show, and he is out of his MIND; he founded the Cloud Appreciation Society and even named his daughter… Cirrus), and amaryllis bulbs to plant, which is pretty cool. They also threw some random Christmas ornaments into the goodie bags… so, not bad, I was happy enough. As we were leaving, they mentioned they had extra tickets to the afternoon taping if anyone wanted to go. When I went to sign up, they were telling people they only had standby, but I saw she had one ticket in her hand so I took it.
(The first pic above is actually from after the 2nd taping, and the 2nd pic is from the first taping.)
And I’m so glad I went, even though I hate going to things like this alone!!! I didn’t know either of her guests- one crazy lil girl (well, tiny woman) from Seattle who makes animal backpacks for children, all by hand (and as Martha put it somewhat snarkily, “Everything in Jaime Irene’s world has a name, knitting machine to backpack to car…”), and Eva Scrivo, Martha’s personal makeup artist. But the goodies were awesome– tea from Takashimaya (the super expensive Japanese department store on 5th Avenue), a DVD of Martha’s favorite classic movie (Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, starring Cary Grant), Estee Lauder shimmer make-up (and you all know how much I love make up lately!!!), and… wait for it… a Breville Juice Fountain Plus juicing machine thingee!!! I was drooling over one of these earlier in the year at Williams-Sonoma, not cuz I actually wanted it, but because the guy demo’d juice and it was so freaking awesome, I was amazed. I don’t know if I’ll actually be able to use it, but still!!! These machines are a couple hundred dollars apiece! Super happy was I.
Also notable was discovering that Martha likes Eminem. She was bopping her head a bit to his music during commercial breaks and they played a lot of his music during the 2nd taping. She was much more laidback and relaxed during the 2nd taping than the first (I guess because the first is technically live, while the 2nd was taped for Friday’s show and had more room for error). It was pretty cool. I’ve never been to a show taping before, so this was a fun, new experience. I feel bad for my friend who had the flu or wasn’t feeling well in any case and missed out. Awww, you know I luv you, I hope you feel better!
This was a lot of fun and I recommend the experience to anyone who has the chance to take a day off work or if they’re passing through NYC on vacation.

I love Martha, even if her show is sometimes a little bland. I’m so jealous (but in a good way)!!!

Loved reading your story (was looking up info on “Whatever Martha” and came upon your blog).
My favorite Martha tale was a Christmas special a decade ago, when the Muppets were the guest.
As Martha put those little silver balls (draggets?)on one cookie after another, Miss Piggy just commented, “How obsessive.”
I rolled, and still love Martha.
