Babbo

A little over a month ago, I’d mentioned how much I detest Mario Batali here (skip to the second paragraph).  I even mention that in a month’s time, this digression/rant beceomes important; for you see, I had a good idea that B was going to take me to Babbo for my birthday.  And he did.  (I mention here that he didn’t believe me fully that it was impossible to get reservations; he wound up calling repeatedly, frustrated, for a few days straight in order to get a day/time that was doable for both of us.)  Because B doesn’t eat a lot [...]

Chili Nachos!

Yummm!  Even though I haven’t been cooking nor felt like cooking at all lately, I still find time to eat good food.  Against my better judgement, I had a big bowl of my sister’s (well, it’s my brother-in-law’s recipe, and knowing her, he probably made this, though she said “I made some chili and homemade salsa, take some home with you”, hahahaha) homemade chili and salsa before my first dance class.  Ah well.  I managed to keep it to myself… hehe.  I jazzed it up with some shredded cheese (monterey jack & cheddar), sour cream, and topped it with her [...]

Grand Central Market Food & Wine Tasting Event

Doesn’t that make me sound/look important?!  I was surprised about that, too. A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to the Grand Central Market for a Food & Wine Tasting event.  Free food & wine, I’m there.  Unfortunately my normal foodie-friend couldn’t attend, but I brought Debbie Downer, who was really excited about the event, and that in turn made me even more excited.  She hadn’t been to something along these lines before, and to be honest, I’d never been to one quite like this, either.  So we were both super excited.  I’ve walked by Grand Central [...]

Plate by Plate

Recently a friend and I volunteered for an event similar to Eat Out NY except not sponsored by TONY. Volunteering entailed taking the day off from work, working through seven straight hours, and then being allowed to attend the event at no cost to us. I just wanted to share all the wonderful food we got to eat: Kerry Heffernan of South Gate plates some more dishes- what a nice guy! He spoke briefly to us and was extremely friendly and kind. South Gate’s offering- I didn’t catch sight of the description, but the orange carrot looking piece was actually [...]
