A week or so ago, StB and I wandered by Thai Me Up after eating at Minca. Obviously we were stuffed but I recalled having read about the place on Cheap Ass Food and hearing that not only was the place cheap, it was filling and pretty tasty. We made plans to return within the week. **Some of you may have noticed a change on my site from the delicious but expensive foods to the cheaper but still delicious foods. Most of my friends are now encumbered with mortgages, having bought their own places throughout the year, so we are [...]
Kalbi Udon

Sometimes, I love me just a little bit much, no? I’ve been on a semi-noodle kick lately, and the other night, I’d decided I should cook for myself instead of just raiding the fridge for whatever leftovers I could scrounge up. Well… sort of. After BBQ’ing on Sunday at my sister’s, leftovers were handed out and there was leftover kalbi (Korean marinated short ribs). So… yeah. I took a whole bunch of Romaine lettuce, chopped it up along with some scallions and popped these all in the bottom of a big bowl. Heated up chicken broth from a carton, then [...]

I started to write this review and then my computer crashed, leaving me frustrated and unhappy. Much like my experience at this restaurant. The night started off well; though it was a Sunday night, the place was pretty packed. Since I’d made reservations, I wasn’t worried, though found it a bit annoying that when I walked in, there was no obvious host stand and the maitre’d seemed to just walk around randomly. While we waited outside for our party to be complete, I noticed that sitting on the bench outside were a number of people holding professional cameras. I was [...]

Shake Shack holds a special place in my heart… my fatty, clogged artery heart, but regardless, my still beating heart. It remains, despite multiple trips to In & Out, my favorite burger ever. I have not gone to any “high end hamburger” place in New York City, if only because I refuse to pay $15+ (sometimes getting up to $60, mind you, for a freaking hamburger!), and I think that defeats the purpose of a burger. Having said that, Shake Shack is not cheap for what you get, but it is really damn good, so I think it’s worth it. [...]
Minca Ramen Factory

Ah, ramen again. The weather in New York has been less than end-of-summer-y, and StB found herself feeling a bit under the weather. So when I asked her to dinner this week, it was only natural that she suggested ramen. Perfect for the chilly, damp and grey weather we’ve been having… even more fitting since this week’s issue of Time Out New York featured… The Ramen Wars. Funny enough, it also contained a review of Ramen Setagaya, but looks liked I scooped them. Taking our cue from TONY’s article, we decided to hit Minca Ramen Factory. Its location on E. [...]
