Chicken Stew, of a sort

After a day of lazing about and just doing laundry, I realized it might benefit my website to like, actually cook something, duh.  (I admit here that I was also trying to concoct something I could make a lot of and would translate well to bento-world, haha.)  Of course, dopey girl that I can be, I chose to cook on a night when it was so sweltering hot I just wanted to cry and slink off to watch the Mets game with an icy beer in one hand.  And I don’t like beer.  But I soldiered on and tweaked a [...]

One… is the loneliest meal

Since moving back home has taken a lot out of me – can you blame me?  There’s no air conditioning – it’s been hard to drum up the energy to cook.  Plus, somehow, I always manage to find leftovers in the fridge.  So, last night I decided to kick my ass and divert the energy I’ve been putting into my bento (I’ve got more; I’ll share pictures at the end of this post) into at least whipping up a simple dish.  FeistyMom actually scoffed, “Since when do you know how to make fried rice?”  Oh for shame, Mother dear, for shame!; [...]

Kittichai

A few weeks ago found me at Kittichai, a fairly well-known Thai fusion restaurant in the West Village.  Though I didn’t photograph them, I must say that the drinks were fantastic; my pineapple caiprinha was absolutely delicious and I liked the pieces of sugar cane they included for me to attempt to discreetly chew on.  Hehe.  We started off with the seabass tempura, despite my casual remark that I don’t like tempura.  These were okay; I didn’t think this fish was best showcased with a tempura preparation, and the accompanying chili tamarind sauce was milder than expected.  My friend thoroughly [...]

Thalassa crossed my radar last Restaurant Week when a few friends wanted to try it. Unfortunately, due to conflicting circumstances, we didn’t go; then, a few months later, a coworker who was born & raised in Athens went and liked it, so it shot to the top of the list. So this RW, my coworker wanted to go… and off we went. lamb “ravioli” – my coworker and friend both were only meh on this “octopodi” special appetizer $7 this was really good, surprisingly fresh and crispy on the outside tuna “carpaccio” I liked this dish a lot; you can’t [...]

Restaurant Week Special Edition: Roy’s

My coworkers were interested in Restaurant Week (which I admit- if only so they can’t blow my spot- I pointed out to them) so we tried to pick a place close enough to work but nice as well… which led me to pick Roy’s Manhattan.  As you can see here, I’ve been to Roy’s Manhattan 3 times previously, Roy’s Scottsdale AZ once, and my first time, the one in San Francisco.  What can I say- I like this place for its consistency, its pricing, and just I like the food.  Generally I’ve found their Restaurant Week lunch menu to not [...]
