(I am posting two nearly identical pictures because I find it so fascinating how two pictures, less than a minute apart, can be taken and show the difference between each steak… the second picture, below, the juices have started to ooze out, though I didn’t prick the steak. Interesting…) Some of you may have guessed this already, but… I moved. From my beautiful apartment in Manhattan (with no grocery stores and lots of ordering from Fresh Direct) to a not-so-beautiful, undisclosed location in Queens, but near a decent amount of ethnic grocery stores with fresh produce for a good price. [...]

Mmm…. I love easy recipes that take no time at all. I love this kind of stuff. It’s just so easy and simple and DELICIOUS, which is the most important part of course. Honestly, this is basically a re-badge of the Indonesian Ginger Chicken recipe I made last year (and have made a few times since), except better. It’s quicker, easier, and if you recall, I had a problem thickening the sauce at the end since I use dark meat, and baking like so makes it super oily/fatty and impossible to thicken without drastic measures- for me, anyway. Maybe someone [...]
Semi-Homemade "Strawberry Love Cake"

*wince* Don’t hate me. Come on now. As I’ve mentioned countless times, I do not bake. I’ll make cupcakes and cakes and brownies… all from mixes. I attempted to make my own ricotta strawberry frosting, which turned out terribly – not that it tasted bad, but it wasn’t particularly good either, so… I had to go the “Semi-Homemade” route. I mean, in my defense, I don’t hate Sandra Lee, as many people seem to do, and she does have some fantastic tips. Now that I’m more familiar with cooking, I probably wouldn’t go her entire 70/30 route, but for people [...]
Kick Ass Tuna Salad

Ahh, tuna salad. Even those of us who would swear not to know how to cook have their own recipe for tuna salad. Everyone has their own preference; relish or no relish? Celery or no? Mayo or mustard or… The list of variations go on forever. So here’s my recent take. Do with it what you will. As I’d mentioned in a recent post, I’d made a dozen and a half deviled eggs. Struggling to finish them all over a few days proved a huge challenge, so instead I thought of ways to use them up. B. wasn’t having any [...]

As any of my regular readers (if I have any?) may have figured out, I have been not eating out that much lately. (Hey, Cathy might even be proud! Was that too corny?…) Anyway, life changes, time marches on, etc. and so forth, so with some major upcoming changes in my life, well, a lot’s going on and it’s made me pretty anti-social, uninterested in going out, more interested in staring at the walls of my Manhattan apartment… or absorb myself in mindless Wii game after mindless Wii game. I’m digressing. It was a welcome change, therefore, last Friday when a [...]
