Somehow, a combination of intuition, foresight, craziness, someone or other (it wasn’t me) had their finger on the pulse of the NYC Foodie World, and about a month ago, we scored reservations to Resto for last night. (For those of you not in NYC, or who don’t give a hoot about the NYC Foodie World, the New York Times’ restaurant critic, Frank Bruni, dropped his review of Resto yesterday.) I didn’t read the review before we went, so as not to taint my perspective, but I did think the place was unusually packed for a Wednesday night. Then again, maybe [...]
Chickpea Salad and Grilled Chicken of a Different Kind

Okay, so this isn’t a recipe, it’s another cop out. I am so behind on posting, I have to get through or I’ll never catch up! A mid-month trip to Vegas and some personal issues just add up to another few weeks behind… ah well. I hadn’t planned on cooking that night, but BF had come home from a long day at work, was tired, and didn’t feel like eating out. So I pulled some boneless, skinless chicken thighs out of the freezer, quickly defrosted them and somehow decided I could try grilling them on the George Foreman as though [...]

For a dual birthday, I kept my camera out and trained on the food, but I can’t properly review it, so please enjoy some semi-drunken photographs of food. Amuse bouche; house pickles and broccoli rabe Berkshire pork belly – so yummy, small appetizer portion though Kumamoto oysters with yuzu Individual portion of the oyster above A quick note; though we did take forever and a day to order, service was uneven and made a few big mistakes (such as completely f*cking up my order… then telling me they ran out… then… well, no matter, this isn’t a real review!). One [...]

There’s a funny story behind this recipe. No one wanted me to make it. I was sitting at work during a slow moment, thinking about what was in the cupboards and what I could do with things to make them more interesting. I’d discovered the night before that for some reason, I had three cans of corn niblets; unusual if only because BF likes creamed corn and I don’t usually buy canned vegetables, nor do I recall buying three cans of any one vegetable at one time. (Did I buy them for something specific and forget to use them? I [...]
Alta, revisited

I sort of reviewed Alta back in January, the first time I went- with about 9 other people, so I didn’t bother trying to get pictures of everything, nor did I really bother to get into it. I just knew I liked the food. So when the other Two Musketeers- ShB and LL- wanted to have dinner and we were all in the area, I suggested it… We decided to split everything amongst the three of us, and each chose two dishes. The menu was slightly different from last time (I would guess it’s seasonal), broccoli rabe dish… lovely Catalonian [...]
